In an Ironic Twist of Fate, Ebrahim Yazdi (former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs) who suffers from cancer was arrested last june in Iran. The man who opposed the Shah to recieve treatment for Cancer in NY back in 1979/1980 was to be examined by his doctors in the US but was not allowed to leave the country. Yazdi is best remembered for General Rahimi's controversial trial and execution.
As Much as I admire Jon Stewart's Talent and humor, I cannot but notice that he has not really done his homework !
Oh Well Next Time Jon Maybe after reading this blog you may have a more eyeopening view of the backgrounds of who you invite on your shows ...
Good Luck with Your Excellent show which has a Great following in Iran with the Younger and equally clueless generation of my compatriots who were hardly born during the Revolution.
May I also Recommend YOU to Read the following book and also Invite Other Iranians including this lady who may have another Outlook on the Revolution of 1979 ?:

You may Realize that the Islamic Revolution of 1979 was not a Happy Picnic for Everyone ...

I like Jon Stuart and his satire its very good overall
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat Nov 03, 2012 05:29 PM PDTthough the choice to bring a criminal of such a scale to his show is very poor taste. Now it must be saidt is in line with liberal democrats in the usa like carter that love the IRI in power in Iran and want to do everything to prevent the democratic progress of Iran and make the work of any group that can bring that about more difficult. So for me what the US govt is doing is the despicable action. JS is not aware of the politics behind this man or his own country. Being misinformed is not a crime. Better luck next time, Jon, it would be a pity to see you invite and cheer on or give a platform to the new Himmlers in the world.

If you didn't know, there's an arrest warrant for Rafsanjani for his involvement in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Argentina, but that hasn't done any good in putting him behind bars. Safa Ali Nope Nojeh Coup Was After the Revolution ...

Kakoo Abarmard Jaan "Secular & Religious" System ?
by Darius Kadivar on Thu Dec 03, 2009 08:57 AM PSTthank you for your comment and interest Abarmard Jaan,
But may I Remind You that That was Precisely the Status Quo of Iran under the Pahlavi's Already ?
//iranian.com/Pictory/2003/February/s1.html
Shah and Son Reza visit Shrine :
//iranian.com/Pictory/2004/August/p3.html
That was actually the Shah's "Mission for My Country" to respect Traditions and push for Secularism at the Same Time.
So Please Explain to me How in the Devil YOU and Your Firends ended up supporting the Revolution ? To Replace The Pahlavi Royal Dynasty By a Turbaned One with Khamenei as Crown Prince "usurping" the Turban in the place of Montazeri the "Legitimate" Crown Prince ? ...
During the Last Shah's Reign ALL Religions Were Respected to a large extent including to a lesser extent the Baha'is ( despite the Hostility of the chi'it Mullahs who are in Power Today) but their rights and security was guaranteed by the State as any other Shahrvand Irani (even if there could have been exceptions to the rule ) :
SHAH AND RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE:
Shah welcomes Pope
Zoroaster commemorative coin
Jewish community
Armenian community
So were ethnic Minorities:

SHAH AND WOMEN RIGHTS:
In addition Unlike His Father Reza Shah ( Known even today as Reza Shah the Great) who imposed on all women to take off their Hijab starting by giving the example with her own daughters and wife:
So that others would not feat being beaten or called Whores in remote villiages when doing the same.

Ramin, there is something
by MOOSIRvaPIAZ on Thu Dec 03, 2009 04:14 AM PSTRamin, there is something called the rule of law, without it you're just like the people you hate. Of course some peopel cant handle laws that dont complement their mindset.
instead of channeling all your anger and frustration and attacking people on a website how about bringing Yazdi's case to a court of law? Since you seem to have all the facts, there shouldnt be a problem referring him and his buddies to an indepdent body that will listen to you?
Moosir and Irandokht, shameless propagandists!
by ramin parsa on Wed Dec 02, 2009 10:41 PM PSTMP writes, "You are no judge. Let a court decide." You are no juge either (are you?), but that doesn't ever stop you from indicting the Shah, and others, like GWB at every turn.
"Hypocracy," look it up, and while you're at it, give a look at the word "shameless."
Irandokht, you always -- ALWAYS!!! -- promote the cause of Hezbollahis, no matter what! Here, you write, "Yazdi has not been convicted of these crimes, lets not be the judge and jury on people's case."
Khomeini and Khalkhali were never indicted in any official proceedings also, so by your phony, self-serving logic, we can't charge them with any crimes either! You also have charged George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld of war crimes, but have they ever been convicted by a judge and jury?
Of course, we all have the right to hurl these sorts of charges in the COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION, so long as we do not engage in slander and defamation! And in a defamation case, as any 1st Amendment lawyer will tell you, the truth is a defense!
And it is TRUE that Yazdi helped usher in the age of darkness in Iran, and he did conspire to murder thousands, including the likes of General Rahimi, who deserved much more than a kangeroo court presided over by a freaking blood-thirsty, dahati HANGING JUDGE!!!
I wonder
by Safa Ali on Wed Dec 02, 2009 06:47 PM PSTSo General Rahimi and Mohagheghi were both in the Nojeh Coup, my grandfather was also in that coup and he was tortured and executed by revolutionaries after it failed. My dad always tells me that the coup failed because some douche bag that was supposed to be on our side was actually a double agent and defected to the Islamic Republic. I always wonder who it was, and if he is still alive.
I don't see anything wrong with what he says
by Abarmard on Wed Dec 02, 2009 05:04 PM PSTWhenever I see an interview with him, I see my political views match his talks. Now the difference between what he does! And what he says is not my job to judge. I agree with his ideas and he is not in any political position or power for me to be "against" him (And he is not running either).
Interestingly I would argue that the best route for Iran is gradual change and this party (however it doesn't have any public support) would be a good transitional stage, somewhere between secularism and religious system.

But on this rare occasion that you have actually come up with a commnet of your own -
Which Court do you think could have/should have tried Yazdi and where? Has Khamenei been convicted in any courts - or should we consider him innocent until the regime changes and he is put through a court?
I agree with M&P
by IRANdokht on Wed Dec 02, 2009 12:49 PM PSTI don't like Yazdi, never did. But there are two issues that you don't seem to consider DK jan.
As M&P noted, Yazdi has not been convicted of these crimes, lets not be the judge and jury on people's case.
I also think that Jon Stewart whose show correspondent Jason Jones was the last person to interview Yazdi before his arrest could have called him a lovely man based on Yazdi's encounter with the Daily Show crew.
Don't you think you're being over-sensitive and too emotional about this? It was just a simple comment baba jan;-)
IRANdokht
No proof
by MOOSIRvaPIAZ on Wed Dec 02, 2009 12:43 PM PSTIt is interesting that as soon as we bring up Shah's people's murdurous past, you jump in to claim that there is another side to this story which we havent been told but as soon as names like Yazdi come up you are so quick to judge that they are all murderers and such.
Yazdi in his own words: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn7EoeJSzUo
Innocent until PROVEN guilty. If he was guilty then why are you guys writing about him instead of referring his case to a US court of justice? Or the internation court of justice? He travels outside Iran many times.
You are no judge. Let a court decide.

I agree, Yazdi is a murderer
by mahmoudg on Wed Dec 02, 2009 07:40 AM PSTAs I have said in some other blogs Yazdi is a murderer that must be brought to justice. Incidently his son, Yousef, went to the same high school (Iranzamin International School) I went to. In fact he was in my economics class in 11th grade and i remember how all of us used to dislike him for the devastating and destructive revolution his father had help unleash on iran. How Ironic that Yazdi comes back from exile and enrolls his two children in the most exclusive high school in Iran and yet has revolutionary aspirations and talks about Islamic Justice and democracy, but his children have to have an education better than the masses he purports to want to bring salvation too. Bunch of hog wash. The likes of Yazdi are hypocrites and in his case also a murderer. I hope he will survive long enough to be put to trial with the rest of the islamic thugs
