Although staunchly nationalistic, Imperial Iran pursued a Policy of regional appeasement balancing it’s Pro Israeli Stance with admonishments against the American Jewish Lobby’s meddling in Israeli Affairs and the Shah’s surprising support for Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian cause in the early years of Arafat’s leadership of the PLO.

Abbas Milani is an Iranian-American historian and author. Milani isavisiting professor of Political Science and the director of the Iranian Studies program atStanford University. He is also a research fellowandco-director of the Iran Democracy Project at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. Heisthe author of several major biographies including The Persian Sphinx : Amir Abbas Hoveyda and the Riddle of the Iranian Revolution, The Shah.His other publications include : Tales of Two Cities: A Persian Memoir, and Modernity and Its Foes in Iran
