Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, her acclaimed graphic novel turned film about growing up in revolutionary Iran, is up for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. What’s her take on U.S. politics? “President Truman wanted to help Iran to go into democracy,” she said at a screening of her film. “Eisenhower came and he fucked up democracy in the whole region. So after that, I think the Democrats are definitely better.” She prefers Obama. “He’s the only one who is intelligent enough not to give a quick answer to very complicated questions,” she said. “He doesn’t talk bullshit. Plus, he was against the war from the beginning.”
