Omar Khayyam, the Persian poet and philosopher, became quite famous in the West after his work was translated into English in the late 1800s. Omar began appearing in ads for Persian rugs, women began naming their children "Omar," and a old time radio show appeared - our beloved Omar, Wizard of Persia. Omar Khayyam influenced popular and exorcized Western ideas of Persia, and his romanticized life was translated into numerous silent films, including A Lover's Oath (1925) and Omar the Tent Maker (1922).

Omar, The Wizard of Persia – 1935 - 1936
