Crown Prince Reza making his first solo flight, then being congratulated by Empress Farah and other pilots after being showered with water as is the tradition.

 

 

Description: 

The Iranian Government is currently engaged in an ambitious military expansion programme. The country is the world's second largest oil producer and over the past four years it has spent more than 12 billion dollars on sophisticated military hardware. This report looks at the advanced weaponry now being used by the army, navy and air force and examines Iran's role in the strategically important Gulf area.

Footage includes:

Destroyer and tanker in Gulf, sailors manning guns and firing them



 

Pilots being briefed, taking off and flying modern fighter-bombers.



 

Crown Prince Reza making his first solo flight, then being congratulated by Empress Farah and other pilots.



 

Shah saying in English that they aim to be self-sufficient in the event of an attack from outside and that he is not seeking to create a new empire.

Does not make sense to fly solo on a 2 seater F14.  Althogh, I guess that would have been possible for him or else...
