My Palestinian Wife

Just decided to share this piece with you. The writer beautifully expresses one thing that many of us may lack, The Golden Rule.

By Charley Reese

25/08/08 "

Lew Rockwell" --

Every now and then, the rumor arises that I have a Palestinian wife. Some of my kin were highly amused by a debate on that subject that was being conducted by letters to the editor in their local paper recently.

Apparently, it does not occur to anyone simply to ask me. As a matter of fact, I don't have a wife. I'm a widower, and the one wife I had was a sweet Midwestern girl of Methodist, German and Swedish extraction. I don't have a Palestinian mistress or girlfriend. I don't even have a Palestinian bowling pal.

The recurring Palestinian wife rumor, I believe, is a result of some people finding it impossible to believe that an American would have any sympathy for the Palestinian people without an ulterior motive. That is a credit to the effectiveness of the Israeli propaganda machine, which has, for more than 50 years, stereotyped Palestinians as a wild, violent people. It is a stereotype helped greatly by the news media, which rarely reports in depth on anything foreign, and by Hollywood, where lately the venerable Nazi has been replaced as the chief villain by the Arab terrorist.

Actually, Palestinians are a gentle people. If you get to know some and hear their side of the story, you will feel sympathy for them, too, unless you have a flint heart. The Palestinians were run over by history. I know that various ethnic groups in the United States fiercely contend for the title of victim, but the Palestinians had it imposed on them.

There was nothing they could do when the Ottoman Empire absorbed their land. There was nothing they could do when the British Empire took their land away from the Ottoman Turks at the end of World War I. There was nothing they could do when the British Empire created the Palestine Mandate. There was nothing they could do when the British Cabinet, for reasons historians still argue about, decided Palestine would make a nice national home for European Jews when and if the British Empire ever decided to give up its occupation of Palestine.

That it did in 1947, after considerable encouragement by Jewish terrorist organizations – the Irgun, led by Menachem Begin, and the Stern Gang, led by Yitzhak Shamir. Yes, Jews used terrorist tactics against the British occupation, and now Palestinians are using terrorist tactics against the Israeli occupation.

In 1948, about 700,000 Palestinians were made refugees and then told they could not return to their homes. Their homes, land and businesses were eventually confiscated. In 1967, Israel seized the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria and the Gaza Strip from Egypt. These are now the "occupied territories." The state of Israel has no legal claim to even 1 square inch of any of this territory, but with the backing of the United States it has been able to tell the rest of the world to go stuff it.

Palestinians appreciate the irony of the fact that the United States went to war allegedly to get Albanian refugees back into Kosovo and went to war twice against Iraq allegedly to enforce United Nations resolutions. Of course, we've done nothing for the return of the Palestinian refugees, and we've ignored the fact that Israel is in open defiance of more than 60 United Nations resolutions. We've also ignored the fact that Israel is the only country in the Middle East that really does have weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear bombs.

For us, it's all about domestic politics. I've never heard of a Palestinian donor invited to spend the night in the Lincoln Bedroom.

All Americans should feel a great deal of sympathy for the younger generations of both Palestinians and Israeli Jews. These young people were born into a conflict started by people long dead or now in their dotage. The issue is simple: It's land. Both sides are dying over land. Unless some outside power forces an agreement on them, they will go on dying, generation after generation after generation.

You don't need a Palestinian wife to feel sympathy for these people. All you need is to know the facts. Learn the truth, and you will feel sympathy for Palestinians – but not very proud of American Middle East policy, which is a continuing failure driven by greed and cowardice on the part of American politicians. The hypocrisy of it has poisoned our image around the world.

Dear Zion

by darius on

You know what the Golden rule is, don't do to others what you do

not like to be done to you .

Thanks for telling me who you are .Please be proud of it and I and all other Iranian salut you for that ,as long as you observe these rules.

Let Iranian also be proud of themselves.Do not ask them to be what serves your interest .

Do not ask them to hate their country and help your ( regardless of who shitty and bastard their official might be)cause.

No one can harm Israel, therefore there is no need for you to be offensive and as soon as a person mention the name of Palestine or Israel ,Jump your gun .No one can harm Israel but itself, this is

true for any individual (.As you see it is Iranian who are harming themsleves ) or any country In Farsi we say;

Morghe Khodesh Khak be sare khodesh Mirize . Losely translatin it

" Its us who do the harm to ourselves.

Zion, there is lots of bad and good things about Iranian,Israel and

any where else if one person want to get upset about. For every single point there is a Counter point,Zionism versus Judaism,

Shia vs Sunni, white against blacks.I used to stop by and just read and listen. What you and I are fighting for and arguing ,later may become a factor for you and I feel fool and being used .We are ordinary people ,we do not know allthe truth, therefore moderation

can safeguard us against bein g ,Lets be open_minded , listen to each otherand promote mutual respect. I think we can accoplish ore thru peace than fight .

I hardly posted any thing in here and I know this site from the time it was started out .I am registered,Have no other aliases' .

I have no fear of expressing myself, but for the last year or so,I am getting this awkward feeling of people who express their thought, being profiled and as soon as certain words are discussed some one with a library of reference on their side is ready to answer(lol) .

I tell you what, I am 56 yrs old , married with an american for 23 yrs  ,lived many places and have a wonderful 8 yrs old son .Ihave learned to respect others .Did I tell you enough.

I know you  want to keep your job,so I tell you about me little by little. This is just a joke

Lets be fair and respectful to eachother .'

Cheer

Darius - Me offensive?. nah

by Mehdi Mazloom on

To clarify things, perhaps I should post some of your own comments.

On you original essay, You write:

In 1948, about 700,000 Palestinians were made refugees and then told they could not return to their homes. Their homes, land and businesses were eventually confiscated. In 1967, Israel seized the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria and the Gaza Strip from Egypt. These are now the "occupied territories."
The state of Israel has no legal claim to even 1 square inch of any of this territory, but with the backing of the United States it has been
able to tell the rest of the world to go stuff it.

Then in your reply you write:

I did not post it to promote Palestinian cause.

It does not sound any other way to me.

Furhtermore, you write:

Any time ,I read a piece you work ,honestly , you sounds like The Voice
Of Israel .To me that is fine ,

I made it clear right at the onset. I am an Israeli, proud of it. Safety and security of my country if paramount to me, right from the beginning, myself (and I assume fred and zion as well), made it clear that, amid all the Israeli bashing here, our objective is to bring the Israeli side of the story, and let visitors make up their own mind.

Also, what about the 1.1M Jews who also ware made refugees by the same
Arab & Islamic state who cry crocodile for the Pals. Does anyone
talk about it?.

but that would be very nice of you to stop bashing the Arabs and the Muslim

Here is the fundamental differences between you and I. While you call it "bashing", I would call it "constructive criticism". Much like my grandmother used say.

"Ba-che' june!, Yad-et narre'  !! .The one who tells the truth in your face, the one who point out your mistakes, and criticizes you for them in your face, he / she is your best friend, The want who does not, he / she is your worse enemy".

You think about it and tell me.

You Are Always On Offensive

by darius on

The article I posted up few days back ,for me had one core message .

Humanity does not know any borders. He explained that very eloquently andI liked it . I did not post it to promote Palestinian cause .But what was your response ? You wrote a long essay on defense of Israel and against the Palestinian and as usual you brought up the progress of Judeo-Christian. Any time ,I read a piece you work ,honestly , you sounds like The Voice Of Israel .To me that is fine ,but that would be very nice of you to stop bashing the Arabs and the Muslim .This is hardly true that Judeo _Christian are progressive .They are going back to the dark ages. The Western society progress wasdue to by passing religion . This two have become more a political and money making machine that a moral authority toward the good of humanity.( Islam in no better either).

In regard to Memri, that site is already known as a propaganda machine for you know who. As far as I am concerned, there is hardly anydifference between the hate mongering Mulla and the white man. They are both individual. They both try to deface the people that you try to defend .

Cheers

Talmudic schmalmudic. law. These are kose' sheri agha. The question is NOT what written in a holy book. Rather, has the adherents of these books still cling to every sentence and tenet written there. Or they have progresses far enough to either ignore them, or outright outlaw them.

The clear answer is. Judea-Christianity did progress with time, and outright outlawed some of those religious law. (Polygamy, child brides, stoning, etc). While in Islam, its adherents are still stuck in the the 7th century mantra. Polygamy is still allowed in Islam, so Stoning (in Iran), or public beheading, or cutoff the criminal's limbs (In Saudi Arabia). Can anyone believe that a rapist penis was chopped off in public while the raped woman witnessed it.

In regards to link which you had provided. This is one man's opinion and interpretation of the Talmud. he is entitled to it. Memri does not interject its own commentaries. rather let the subjects speak for themselves and by themselves.

This is about Talmudic Law . As you see it is easy to be negative and

dig dirt. I would suggest you to consider add this to MEMRI site

and ask them to add this to thier site .

The Palestinain Fatigue.

by Mehdi Mazloom on

Mister darius,

It is kind of you to post the heart bleeding essay about how the Pals are suffering. I like to take the readers through few of those items listed in the essay and provide appropriate response.

"Palestinian". Prior to 1967,they called themselves "Arabs". NOT Palestinians. (A genuine ancient group does not change its identity in mid course to suit a political agenda).

The recurring Palestinian wife rumor, I believe, is a result of some
people finding it impossible to believe that an American would have any
sympathy for the Palestinian people without an ulterior motive.

No, it was the beginning of their suicide bombing of innocent Israeli man, woman and children, which caused a revolt among American (and the rest of the world) lost any sympathy to their cause.

That is
a credit to the effectiveness of the Israeli propaganda machine, which
has, for more than 50 years, stereotyped Palestinians as a wild,
violent people. It is a stereotype helped greatly by the news media,
which rarely reports in depth on anything foreign,

No Israeli propaganda could top the monstrosity of a mother called with umm Nidal, who wrapped explosives around THREE of her own son and sent them to blow themselves up and kill as many Israelis possible

Go to this site and watch her speak with her own filthy mouth. And get the shock of your life for the real reason behind her decision.

There was nothing they could do when the Ottoman Empire absorbed their
land. There was nothing they could do when the British Empire took
their land away from the Ottoman Turks at the end of World War I. There
was nothing they could do when the British Empire created the Palestine
Mandate.

At the end of the ottoman empire in 1920. The land was legally owned by 3 different entities - none of which included those Arabs who call themselves "Palestinians" .

1. Ottoman Empire

2. Absently Arab wealthy land owners, who were leasing the land to the Arab-Palestinians.

3. Jews whom through Rothschild family Trust had bought from the Ottoman and paid full cash. (even Arab historian themselves admit of this fact).

There was nothing they could do when the British Cabinet, for reasons
historians still argue about, decided Palestine would make a nice
national home for European Jews when and if the British Empire ever
decided to give up its occupation of Palestine.

This is utter false statement. Read UN Resolution 181.gave them plenty of choice

//www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/un/res181.htm

Which offered to create two state (among others states in the region). One for Jews, and one for Arabs. Jewish leaders had agreed to the proposal. Arab refused, they wanted the whole thing. Instead they went to war........ and lost that war - along with good chunk of their land. One declares war on thy neighbor, and loses, loses land with it.

In 1948, about 700,000 Palestinians were made refugees and then told
they could not return to their homes. Their homes, land and businesses
were eventually confiscated. In 1967, Israel seized the West Bank and
East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria and the Gaza
Strip from Egypt.

right after the 1948 war. More then 1.2 Million Jews who had lived throughout the Arab Islamic countries, they all were expelled from their homes. Forced to leave their villas in Baghdad, Damascus, Tehran, and leave with only a suitcase in their hand. More then 1.1M of them were absorbed by their fellow Jews.  I know it because my family was one of them.

I could go on and on on this tragic episode. Suffice to say that, wars always end up with tragedy and relocation. How it is handled it another matter.

The factor is, during time of WWII, more then 130M people have lost their homes and land,. Forced from their homes. we have witness holocaust of Jews, Gypsies, and otehr marginal race. Pakistan had expelled more then 8M Hindus and threw them across the border into India.

Since then, each and every group picked up the pieces and settled its affair as best as they could. Some got compensation, others were helped with settlement into new life by their government. All moved on, except pals. What the hell is it.

Ask their corrupt and fundamentalist and hate filled political and religious leaders. Ask the leaders of the Arab countries and now the Iranian who use the poor Pals to advance their own selfish agenda.

Israel is part of the problem, not the only solution.

very nice article

by IRANdokht on

George Gallaway was also discredited a few times in different articles because of his wife!!! but even after his divorce he didn't change his views and attitude towards the politics of the region. It's amazing how repeated nonsense and accusations turn into fact for some people!

I liked the tone of this article very much

Thank you for sharing it
