Interview with Monika

Hi Darius,

Your intereview with Monika Jalili was interesting.  She's got clips 

on YouTube so I know what she sounds like, but it was fun to learn 

about her background

I enjoyed the images of pre-revolutionary film memorabilia.  I'm a film poster collector and 

have a Fardin poster that is similar to the one you used for the article.  I'm also crazy about this 1961 Googoosh poster:

That's actually not the meaning there. The sunflower, a flower that reaches for the sun and thereby moves upwards, is actually saddened ("=delesh migireh") by the crabapple branches that bend and therefore move down.

Hope that clarifies it for you.

I love this song so much and used to listen to "Gol-e Goldoon-e Man" long time ago during a challenging period of my life while trying to handle obstacles and issues around my kid, and then I left it alone ( by the way everything is ok now :)).

Yesterday, when I saw this blog, I was thinking why there is no reference the original signer and her beautiful performance... Anyhow thank you...

This song has one of the best love lyrics I have ever heard.  I am embarrassed to admit that I had not heard this song before today.   It seems likely that Simin Ghanem sang this song first.

Meaning of the words

Jamshid, I understand the dictionary definitions of the words, but that still leaves me wondering about a lot of things.  Just one example:  The sunflower (the gol-e khorshid) is getting its "heart" from crabapple branches (az shakhehaye bid delesh migireh).  I know the the poet is deliberately trying to confuse non-Iranians like me, and he's doing a great job!

The moonflower not rising from pools of sleep just sounds like a nice metaphor so I don't feel puzzled.  Most of the other words are like that too.
