In Politics at all forums it often gets heated and at times we say things we don't really mean to say,in anger.Sometimes it really helps make the point.Other times it just comes off as mean. But it always is something you take with you later. At least to those with conscious minds,it affects in a bad way. It's either you may continue thinking in your anger or you may regret things you say, either way it's negative.
Afterwards,I have a conversation with myself that starts with 'I should let cooler heads prevail and shut up'.Then I think 'should I really shut up? 'I'm really right' and think of all the reason's why I should voice my opinion.
I'd like to think noone is totally wrong.I never want to win a argument by proving someone to be totally wrong, because it's nearly impossible. That would be of my own ignorance. There is a reason for everything. There's a reason someone is against my opinion that may be right while I may be right also in my reason's.
It's really more of a joint understanding,a compromise that needs to take place between two sides, that's how peace is obtained. Not by thinking the one side is completely wrong and you are completely right. This is the difference between argument and discussion.I have crossed the line many times.

Sun Tzu's Art of War
by eroonman on Mon Jun 28, 2010 03:22 PM PDTTry to see things from the perspective of your enemy.
If you can, they may cease to be your enemy.
If not, it makes killing them all that much easier.

arguments are not battles
by Abarmard on Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:49 AM PDTImagine that a homosexual argues with a faithful religious individual. They never get to win their points but what one hopes to accomplish is that those thoughts that categorically goes against one another can be heard in civilized manner.
Those who agree with Shah (monarchy) or Communist's ideas will never think of the "crimes" or dictatorial state of their ideology. Muslims and Christians are also similar. If you say Islam is harsh, a Muslim would argue that true Islam is not what is presented here. If one argues that Islamic Republic is a dictatorial government, a pro IRI would argue that those who are in charge are redirecting what people democratically voted for. Similarly, if you ask Monarchists about Shah's "crimes", they will argue that in their state constitution will be respected regardless of the past. So do Communists, who claim there never has been a communist state.
Therefore, the best solution is to agree that people have many different ideologists with their own selected history to proof. Everything is selective in arguments. Hopefully what we can gain is to accept that what we see as perfect would not sit with another.
Possibly in the future these kinds of technique would be beneficial for a freedom and democracy without chaos and civil disruptions.
Dear VPK, LOL, I don't mean you
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Jun 28, 2010 06:12 AM PDTDear VPK, my original comment on this blog was that how I feel less stressed when I don't engage in political discussions on IC since some commentators have extreme views. Later I changed my comment to the present one. Dear VPK, you are a voice of reason and I do agree that we have some colorful presences here.

Dear Escape, many of us share your feelings
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Jun 28, 2010 05:37 AM PDTDear Escape, many of us who engage in discussions share your feelings. I know what you mean where you write:"...Afterwards,I have a conversation with myself that starts with 'I should let cooler heads prevail and shut up'.Then I think 'should I really shut up? 'I'm really right' and think of all the reason's why I should voice my opinion."
