As many of you know Monday February 14 (Valentine's Day) is a day of rally in Iran called for by none other than Mousavi and Karoubi. As many of you also know talking about Mousavi and Karoubi or worse Khatami on iranian.com is considered blasphemy! This while they are known to the world as "opposition leaders".
Of course there are other opposition leaders but none have been able to rally support inside Iran. Couple years ago when people came to the streets and protested first the sham elections and then the repression inside Iran folks on i.com and elsewhere were besides themselves! Although, many didn't even acknowledge Mousavi and Karoubi's role in all of that or try to minimize it and blame them for having alternative motives.
I've recently written some blogs and comments about Reformists so I'm not going to bother anyone with it anymore. So when you think of Khamenei on one hand who shamelessly threatened people in his famous Friday's prayer speech and carried on his brutal crackdown of protestors and Mousavi and Karoubi on the other hand who have no position in the regime and are under virtual house arrest and subject to random violence by regime's thugs which should go down first?!
What's wrong with this picture on i.com where we can't seem to follow what Iranians are saying inside Iran? I suppose nothing. I suppose we can always "react" but hardly support it even on Valentine's Day which many on i.com consider the "holiest day" on the calendar!

IF THERE IS RALLY
by afshinazad on Thu Feb 10, 2011 12:36 PM PSTIf there is a rally we all Iranian should support that and no matter what is our political belives are and it is not important who calls for this rally either MOUSAVI or KAROBI or REZA PAHLAVI or WHO EVER, we must unite for main agenda, for time being we have to support and all parties must unit to reach our goal otherwise we all are given empty slogan and we have no intention of achiving any thing and we will comeback the next day and put our heart out what is happing to our people and the country.
all slogans must be only: IRAN, IRANIAN, AND FREEDOM
ایران - ایرانی - ازادی- حکومت ایرانی
otherwise rest out is repeating same death to this and death to that and makes no sense.
I made this comment on my poem blog but it it is good for here

by Demo on Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:59 AM PSTAfter 32 yrs & still "down" with this & "javid" with that!!The blogger's avatar & the ancient car shown there tells the whole story of the so called "love with IRAN!!" No more of those old chantings. Mousavi is down himself already & talks/acts like he has been sedated! Karoubi is like a resurrected dead!! Not to miss Khamenie. He is like talking dope! 75% of our population are less than 40 yrs old age. Let's ignore/dump all these oldies altogether once 4 all. 20 millions voted for the "Shayad" Khatami. What did they get in return? It is about time for the young to stop relying on the old & the dead & to choose a leader among themselves.
Faramarz jaan there is a rally! We got our wish = no "permit"!
by Esfand Aashena on Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:58 AM PSTSince we were asking for protests without permission and ridiculing Karoubi and Mousavi for applying for a permit (agha ejaazeh :-) they complied (that'd be kapalakh in Vulcan talk :-) and denied the permit!
They even went one step further and put Karoubi under house arrest moving from virtual house arrest to real house arrest! So we got everything we asked for!
Now it is up to Iranians inside Iran to have a rally on this holy day with or without permission! I suspect based on 2009 rallies it'll be a cat and mouse game between people and anti-riot police.

Call it whatever you please, you start with Death, you end up
by Mash Ghasem on Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:39 AM PSTwith Death.
This is hezbollah language, plain and simple, bankrupt and degenerated. A new revolution, our new Revolution, needs its own, new language. As a first step that might mean :
Not succumbing to a discourse of hate and violence.
MARG BAR HICH KAS.
DEATH TO NO ONE.
Belive it or not there's a galegxy of studies on this very simple issue and usage of the language, suffice it to say, it makes absolutely no sense, keeping in mind that:
A) Since we oppose capital punishment, no death sentence will be issued for any of these ruling drug-addicts.
B) As a slogan, it seems that in the past 33 years we have heard enough death to this and long live that, and it might be time, it just might be that time, for us to create new experinces, new possiblties, and cosequently perhaps a new language.
J) Strom the reality studios.
D) Zin san hami shomar, keh zin sanm arezost.
Rally? What Rally?
by Faramarz on Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:31 AM PSTEsfand Jaan,
They denied the permit for a rally, put Karoubi under house arrest and told everyone that they should celebrate the IR anniversary instead!
No love for Iranians on V-day!

What's with this "Death " thing
by Mash Ghasem on Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:14 AM PSTGreens actually had a very good slogan on the anniversary of US Embassy take over, it went like this :
" Death to no one."
So, in that spirit how about
Down with dictator,
please.
Death to Dictator = Secularism
by Esfand Aashena on Thu Feb 10, 2011 09:59 AM PSTBavafa jaan toppling Khamenei is the first step towards Secularism. The most famous and widely used slogan of the green movement in 2009 was and still is Death to Dictator!
These two may not be alive by the time Khamenei is toppled. Time has come for a shakeup. Let's shake it!

Just add my name to COP comment
by Bavafa on Thu Feb 10, 2011 09:48 AM PSTI believe in these two folks as much as I believe in Valentine's day, a creation of other entities, business in this case with the sole purpose of their own benefit. I don't believe Mousavi or Kahrobi can deliver a [secular] democratic system for Iran, but if Iranians believe and trust them to be their leader, then they would be my leader as well.

Wear pink and distribute love candy during the rally!
by Esfand Aashena on Thu Feb 10, 2011 09:35 AM PSTIranians often resort to doing the exact opposite of what the regime and its cronies tell people to do.
This year Valentine's Day was banned! So now in opposition let's wear pink and distribute love candy! About 3 years ago wearing pink for men was another sign of protest!
PS thanks Ari jaan for the cartoon note!

Simply put: big street demonstrations have been very costly so far, and the police in greater Tehran is already controlling as much as they can.
So, it looks like we need to come up with some very creative methods to protest and not get arrested, as much as possible. Easy for me saying it, here in Canada!
Gosheh midon neshasteh migeh: "Lengesh kon!"
Free and fare elections in Iran would be a very good first step towards almost everything.

Hamsade you're not riding any donkey!
by Esfand Aashena on Thu Feb 10, 2011 08:39 AM PSTDonkey riding can be fun! I tried to find a donkey in Iran so I can get him to gallop or something but couldn't find any for rent! Hopefully next time.
So far I'll put both of you as supporting this rally and marching behind Karoubi, Mousavi and Khatami while holding your noses!

by Esfand Aashena on Thu Feb 10, 2011 08:32 AM PSTI'm glad to see you say you're willing to support the people if they want Mousavi and Karoubi as their leaders. So you're going to be one of the deciphers on this holiest of days!
I always think we can never have a worse regime than Islamic Republic. Except maybe with MKO we go one step backward!

Esfand, I don't believe
by Cost-of-Progress on Thu Feb 10, 2011 08:25 AM PSTthat it is a matter of support alone - I for one do support the people, not the once-killers-now-turned-people's-saviors!
Unfortunately, mousavi and karoubi are, as I noted in your reformist blog - the fruits of the same rotten tree and will never, ever accept anything other than the Islamic monarchy that Iran has now.
If that's all Iranians can do as a first step toward freedom and civility (as ironic as that may be), I support and back their cause and struggle 100%.
