DOES A DEEPLY HATED REGIME THAT RELIES TOTALLY ON REPRESSION REALLY EXPECT PEOPLE TO MOURN FOR THIS SCUMBAG?
Item: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has declared two days of public mourning in the Kordestan Province to mark
the martyrdom of Mamousta Sheikholeslam, a suppoter of rigged elections, artibitrary arrests, show trials, forced confessions and the beating, rape and murder of human right protestors.
UNITED FOR NEDA
The entertainers, poets, thinkers and actors are harmonizing on the song "United for Neda," a call to action against human rights violations by the Iranian government against Iranians protesting the disputed outcome of recent presidential elections.
The song was inspired by the plight of Neda Agha-Soltan, the 26-year old Iranian woman who was fatally shot on the streets of Tehran on June 20. The ordeal was recorded on cell phone video and received international attention when it hit the Internet.
"When I saw links to Neda being shot, it was so disturbing to me," said Iranian-British recording artist Mams Taylor, who wrote and produced the song.
"It hurt me, angered me and touched me at the same time, to think that these people are so courageous to go and seek their freedom," said Taylor.
While her death became a rallying point for justice, her name, "Neda," in Farsi means "the call/calling" or "voice" -- a voice many people say cannot be muted.
DEMONSTRATORS BLAST KHAMENEI'S BRUTAL SON AND WOULD BE HEIR
Some of the chants heard Thursday were familiar refrains that have been repeated often in recent days:
"Death to the Dictator!"
"Death to Khamenei!"
But a new phrase entered the lexicon on Thursday that referred to Mojtaba, the son of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamanei: "Mojtaba bemire, rahbariroh nagiri," they chanted: "Die, Mojtaba, so you don't become the supreme leader!"
During the past week, rumors have surfaced that Mojtaba has taken over the pro-government Basij militia and that his father is grooming him to be the next supreme leader. Thursday marked the first time protesters chanted against him.
MY SUGGESTED GRAFFITI: "Mogtaba = Caligula" (He has Nero for a daddy, soesn't he?)
