Last night's dream

My former news agency boss was sitting on the single couch next to mine in my living room. I was working on my laptop, not very concerned -- not as much as I should have been. What is he doing here, in my apartment, in America? It wasn't a question that came to my mind. Or maybe it did, but I wasn't too worried. Still, I knew my work routine would soon change. Soon we would be having daily meetings to go over newspapers and pick stories to work on, like we did in London. He had mellowed since the earlier days, but it seemed like a temporary tactic. "I'm not as nice as I used to be, no?" I said to him laughing. He agreed, politely.

Next scene: I fell asleep on the floor as I always do in the living room. I woke up and felt very guilty. I felt my boss was my guest and I had gone to sleep before figuring out where he was going to sleep. I saw him and tried to make light of it. "Where did you sleep? In my messy bedroom?! How were you able to sleep?" I asked, laughing. I went to the bedroom and saw the bed had been moved sideways and my clothes on the bed had been pushed aside or dropped on the floor. As I was standing there I discovered for the first time (after three years of living here) that my bedroom has a large passage to the garage. I saw two people inside the garage -- two friends I didn't recognize -- moving a large flat panel inside, as if they were going to remodel the apartment.

Scene changes. I am inside a plane. My seat is right at the front, behind the windshield window on the nose, like in the First Class section on the top level of a Jumbo Jet. But the seats were normal economy class. I can clearly see everything outside. There are five or six black women standing in front of the plane. One of them is very beautiful. I'm staring at her. One of the women notices and gives me a stern look.

The plane starts maneuvering for take-off. I see passenger cars moving around the plane as if we're in a large parking lot. The plane takes off but flies in very low altitude, as I watch rooftops and power lines only a few feet away. Moments later the plane lands and stops in front of a supermarket. Passengers are allowed to leave and go shopping. I go out.

I ask an airline employee when will the plane leave? He says I have to be back in 20 minutes. I go to the supermarket. There's security at the entrance. A female officer is standing in front to prevent me from going inside, making sure I am searched first. The search is done by a robotic hand that tightly runs down my body, even squeezing my genitals. I squirm in discomfort. A male security officer made a sarcastic remark. "I bet you're thinking 'if I was in Tehran, there wouldn't be any security checks at the supermarket', right?" he says with a laugh. I'm cleared and allowed to go through a narrow passage inside the supermarket.

I was looking for a box of brown sugar cubes. I ask a supermarket employee where I can find it. He says the number of the isle, but I don't hear it clearly. I pass each isle, searching. At one point I look for another employee and instead see a strange looking customer. He reminds me of the Tinman in "Wizard of Oz" only because he has a large barrel-like mid-section and carrying a large backpack. "I was wounded in the war," he says.

Now I'm worried. Very worried. I haven't found the sugar and I have to get back to the plane. I start running towards the exit knowing I am late. If I miss the flight I won't have enough to buy another ticket. I'm almost in tears. I step out and the plane has gone.

***

I woke up, relieved that it was all a dream.

What anxiety?!

by Anonymouse on

I don't think this is a dream about anxiety.  I think this is a dream about going back to your roots instead of perhaps (I stress perhaps because I don't know you) being someone else in California culture (SF for that matter) which is very liberal and non-chalant, which doesn't help us Iranians as a cause, just a high for individuals, which is not bad by the way :-)

Now isn't your former boss the one who recently passed away?  I remember reading about him being a good and decent man.  I also remember reading he was working within the Iranian system. So his appearance in your dream may mean that he is trying to tell you (your subconscious) to not dismiss everything in Iran and realize there are plenty that can be built upon, even with this "IRI".  He is reminding you of other dynasties in Iran and this not being as "savage" as some other ones.  After all savagery was more law of the land in previous centuries.  Last but not least he is asking you about that rosary remark consuming you where there are bigger fish to fry. Something like that, you know better.

The robotic search hand is a reference to "sex toys" and the hassle you went through with Hajiagha and other readers who were constantly trying to cut him off and thinking privately to yourself, those were the good old days.  There is really something funny about an Iranian cartoons with sex toys!  Your sheytoon soul wants to have more of those cartoons but your wise soul is telling you, it's time to grow up and move on, while your sheytoon soul is saying.....

The reference to the beautiful black attendants in the plane is about looking for ways to get some, if people don't scream at me and call me names, it may mean that you find black women easier and more liberal (SF note above) when it comes to sex which may be what you're looking for, sex with no strings attached and no one even knowing who you are.

I like dreams and then trying to interpret it for myself and see how close I come to being real and honest with myself.  We all like to be real and honest with ourselves, right?  I love the internet's anonymity which helps us express ourselves! Modernity!

Dear JJ,

by Azarin Sadegh on

I did a bit of search to find out about your dream:

1) Seeing your ex boss: since now you are your own boss, seeing  your ex-boss, is like dreaming about yourself (so not being nice to yourself, working too much, too involved with work, etc)

2) Plane/trip: A great change/transition is coming your way.

3) Sugar: it represents all the pleasure you're denying in your life.

4) Being late: You're afraid of change. You don't feel confident or worthy of this change coming.

I think this dream is about the election and Obama...you're not sure of him anymore, if he is really nice, if he's really going to change things,.. :-)

Voila!

Your dream tells me that

by qq (not verified) on

Your dream tells me that you're finally at peace with what happened with your boss (you no longer respect him) Not only that, you finally realize that you made the right decision and you were morally right and he was wrong. You took the honorable road, though you're still afraid of the ramification but rest assured, your consciense is clear and that's priceless. You might not ever be able to go back to Iran in the near future but at least your conscieous is clear and your creator is proud of you...

You have finally let go of the past and ready to start a new beginning...You've finally free and have come of age...congrats!

JJ, Your Ok...Here's what it means

by SI (not verified) on

Avvalesh behet begam: Kheir bashe;

Lately, you have been probably feeling no matter what you do, it is not enough. You spend all the effort but you do not get satisfactory results. Try to be happy with what you do...and always think...I've tied my best and I'm happy with the outcome. It will work out eventually.

journal your dreams as...

by Monda on

you may have a sequel tonight or some other night, which could be related to the one last night.  It is amazing that you recall all events in such clear sequence and detail; your psyche is in touch with the rest of you, that's for sure!

I know very little about dreams but it sounds like you're unconsciously debating your living arrangements or life style or something to that effect? Also I hear that airplane represents sexual urges/male sensuality, if you buy into Freud's ideas.  Overall there is a sense of anxiety, as n.zancanadaie pointed, which I hope you will resolve with the help of such horrifying dreams.

Perhaps you're just nervous about BeyondPersia's event honoring your work on 4/19th.  I don't know you Jahanshah, but I know that if it was me I'd be probably scared s***less in anticipation of being honored in front of such big crowd of strangers! Sweet dreams!

I was very wrong.

by Feshangi on

I could have sworn that I was going to read about a steamy and juicy dream. A Sheema-esque rendition of a REM sleep. But I was not disappointed by what I read. In fact I found all the dreams very interesting. I particularly liked your airplane dream. Very bizarre indeed.

Your dream ,must have happend after my conflict with Mobarez, last night .I could picture you screaming and saying ,Atashbas!!! and thinking "I had enough of these idiots".

It does not help our dreams and their content when we go to bed upset.Specially the part about pain in your genitals, alarmed me!!!!

Az shokhi gozashteh, If this was a real dream,it is a sign of stress.Take care of your self, and meditate.

On my part I try to not cause agitation for you ,may be for a week!!
