I was writing about our dog Candy. I usually have the TV on when I'm working. I like to have it on, even though I rarely watch. The programs are really bad in the early morning, before sunrise. So I usually tune into the MTV channel which only shows the latest music videos. This time, I had it on the Animal Planet channel.
As I was working I heard birds chirping. It went on for a long time before I realized it's way too early for the birds to come out in my neighborhood.
Then I looked at the TV and it was showing boats at a harbor around sunset. The camera did not move, the scene would not change, there was no narrator, no people at all. Right now it's showing a pack of wild horses in a lush valley. Again the camera angle is fixed and the only sound is the sound of nature shortly after sunrise.
How creative, beautiful and peaceful.
Love that Animal Planet.

Of course I had to keep replying...
by Rosie T. on Fri Nov 23, 2007 12:33 PM PSTI kept on asking people to go to my blog and they kept on replying here. Probably I should've left it, but the temptation's just too great...because you see, it's a visual/verbal medium and readers happen by, and if I leave a post on top of my post that tries to make me sound like an IDIOT, that's what people will see and it's bad PR for me...they won't read the whole thread, they'll just see something saying, "Rosie, you're a jackass". So it's a quandary...a lose/lose situation for me. So, if I'm going to lose either way, may as well play....I mean, this is a GAME right? Like those games kids play when one person puts out a hand and the other puts the hand on top and then they keep trying to see who can get the hand on top....what a nice game....relieves some of the tension, you know, when you're writing about child executions and global warming and and the targeted bombing of the IRI and persecution of minorities....fun little game....who's on top.... and so important, too...
Next?

by m (not verified) on Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:20 AM PSTOMG...Rosie joonam, JJ is the editor on this site..WOW no Kidding?? U never cease to amaze me. Holy God! I've only been reading this site since the mid 1990's. Did not know that! U are one unique brilliant, mind blowing ,intellectual!! I am going to run right out, fall to my knees and praise the lord, he granted us you to enlighten us!! Please keep it up. Amazing u dont take your advice to not post here anymore though?? Hmmm whats up with that? Will be waiting for you right here, because I know you will be back:)
Mahtab...
by Rosie T. on Wed Nov 21, 2007 07:08 PM PSTI can't believe it. A friend of mine whom I'd recommended read this thread for a laugh told me you'd actually posted again here. I stopped by to see if it were really true. I just couldn't believe it...
so...
to encapsulate our little discussion:
You began on this thread when I was having a perfectly nice back and forth with the blogger (who is also btw the publisher) by referring to me as "just a poor bored lady" and calling yourself "Courteous Iranian."
And that says it all. The rest is just window-dressing.
Roise u are awesome!
by mahtab (not verified) on Tue Nov 20, 2007 06:20 AM PSTWell thanks again for your lovely, polite and extremely docile behaviour, must really work for you.How lucky we are to have such a nice and wellspoken lady joining our midst! I for one cannot wait to read the rest of your blogs. I am not muslim but again thanks for all of your lovely advice and directions, where do you teach your class on manners and decency, I would love to join.:) M

by Soooo Sad (not verified) on Sun Nov 18, 2007 07:12 AM PSTRosie Jan,Wow..you need to relax my friend! My niceness is not an act, I was born this way.So sorry for your balled up tensions and frustrations, chill out, go for a stroll or something. Its not healthy to carry so much anger and bitterness around. Be Happy:) M
You Don't Disappoint Me At All, KHANOM-e-Tarbiati
by Rosie T. on Sat Nov 17, 2007 09:37 PM PSTYour being female changes nothing about what I said about discrimination, Miss Manners. If I were a man (an IRANIAN one) you wouldn't patronize me and attack me the way you do with your SICKENING SLOP of "niceness," you and your "observant" friend. This is what a man I know calls "power under." You LIKE trying to make powerful women sound weak and stupid so that you can use your sweet little feminity to suck people dry. You're about as polite as a vampire.
I thought your cyberfriend Miss Perspicacious was a MAN because she spoke about having a "girlfriend." Otherwise I wouldn't have made the assumption. It changes VERY little. Women can discriminate against women just as much as men do. Sometimes much more.
And I know ALL ABOUT the statistics on Iranians with Masters in this country. They have THE LARGEST PERCENTAGE of advanced degrees of any ethnic "minority", mostly Masters, and that DOES NOT MEAN that I would be hard-pressed to find an Iranian lacking in a Masters. Your readings of statistics are delusional.
As you are in your perception of your politeness. Khanom-e- Tarof-e-Poroo, I asked you BOTH to take this to my blog because you were ruining JJ's, but again, and FOR THE LAST TIME, I'll address you here:
Did it ever occur to you that maybe I am not YOUR guest here but we are ALL JJ's guests? It is NOT your place to welcome me. I am not your guest. I neither need nor accept your welcome. YOURS. Specifically YOUR individual welcome. I reject it.
READ me. GO TO MY BLOG, or find my posts and READ them instead of just REACTING to them because a highly educated NON-Iranian WOMAN wrote them...and perhaps...just perhaps..you may dimly...dimly...glimpse why I DON'T need YOUR welcome.
Finished. Done. Over. I refuse to answer anything more you say to me here. TAKE IT TO MY GODDAM BLOG.

Yes, me either
by Courteous Iranian (not verified) on Sat Nov 17, 2007 06:51 PM PSTDear Rosie,
I also am NOT male, sorry to disappoint you:)
In fact if you are speaking about the Iranian population in the US, you would be hard pressed to find many with less than a Masters degree in any field. So thats a correction for you on 2 counts. As before, welcome to the site, "Mehmoons" are highly regarded in our culture, so "be mehmooni khosh oomadi madar jan".
Mahtab
Yes, dear Observer,
by Rosie T. on Fri Nov 16, 2007 09:48 PM PSTyou certainly did make your case!
Now take your humility, and your little girlfriend, too, and go see Dr. Holakuee. He can explain all this better than I. Also, he gets paid for it, I don't.
Good luck!
Robin PS. JJ: Tamum. Khamush. Sorry. Love that, LOOOVE that.... ANIMAL PLANET.................... :D
OK Rosie you maybe right -
by observer (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 07:44 PM PSTOK Rosie you maybe right - maybe I am exaggerating a bit since I do not read everything on this site - so I really have no way of knowing that you make comments in most posts but it sure seems that way. I do not mean any disrespect but I am really not that interested to go read your blog and make a case about this discussion. But for the record - I was just a bit ticked this morning when I was feeling all good when I read JJ's short writing (sort of mindless) and then boom you came along and rained on my parade - you had to find something wrong. Anyway, I think I made my case and I agree with you lets just drop it.
PS- By the way I am not a 'he'
Okay, Observer, since our posts crossed; also to "Courteous"
by Rosie T. on Fri Nov 16, 2007 02:32 PM PSTObserver, you are exaggerating. There are MANY people here who post as much as me. The thing is, they are MEN and they are IRANIAN and they are sommetimes actually LESS well-educated than I. Yup! That's right! I suggest there is discrimination here of a threefold nature, based on sex, nationality and the dubious "privileges" of my education. Also I listen VERY well. GO TO MY BLOG FROM LAST WEEK AND WRITE TO ME AND I WILL EXPLAIN WHAT I MEAN.
Courteous, Agha-ye-Tarbiati, I DON'T need anyone's pity, no matter how well-intentioned, I do what I do here for reasons of my own and I am happy to elucidate them (and ARGUE them) ON MY OWN BLOG,
SO ,AGAIN, ENOUGH ABOUT ME HERE. Talk to Jahanshah about music, dogs, sunlight, tv......
Best, Robin,
Did not mean to hurt Rosie's feeling
by observer (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 01:07 PM PSTYes you are right Massoud we do not practice humbleness as much as we should (but that is in our culture). Of course Rosie (or anyone else for that matter) is in title to their opinion but I thought that I want her to know that just listening for a change and not expressing opinions at all times is not a bad thing. Rosie reminds me of my girl friend (she is a very good friend and a good person) who always wants to be the center of attention wherever she is and she gets is – everyone loves her. But the whole thing losses its charm after a while… In any case, I cannot tell her “take it easy a little” but I can tell Rosie since I cannot hurt her feelings since she does not know me (or at least I hope not)
Thank you but Please Don't Discuss Me Anymore Here
by Rosie T. on Fri Nov 16, 2007 01:05 PM PSTThis is jj's blog. I wrote to jj about his blog. I answered Observer because he had it coming. Please go back to jj. He's reaching out to you. If I understand him correctly, he doesn't want to be just some powerful presence behind this website like a cyber Wizard of Oz. He wants to be human for you and you for him. I welcome all your thoughts on me, the positive AND the negative, but please no more here on this blog.
Best wishes,
Robin Jayne Goldsmith
Observer jaan: Humble??
by Massoud P (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:51 AM PSTObserver jaan:
Humble?? Whose humble here?
Of course it is an Iranian thing!
And a great trait at that - which at one time really existed in our culture, yet I don't see this humbleness projected here much, especially when everyone is walking around incognito!!
Don't be so silly!
by layla (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:35 AM PSTCome on people,
Don't be so silly.
So Rosie's got a lot of opinions to express... no more than the average Joe, or Reza or Maryam....
This ain't the way to deal with mehmoon.
(If, in actual fact she is mehmoon, which is still pretty hard for me to comprehend w/her vast knowledge of a lot of Irooni things)... yes, she's lively and opinionated... so be it.
No one has to... but I read your comments, and on my part, any and all( except for the cursing lot and the disgusting foul language users) all are welcome!
Agreed %100
by observer (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:22 AM PSTCourteous Iranian Agreed %100! However she might as well lean something while here (among us) – being a little humble! (that is an Iranian thing isn’t it?)
my 2 cents on Rosie:
by Courteous Iranian (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 11:00 AM PSTJust a poor bored lady, with no culture of her own, leave her alon!! Ours has room enough for all to be welcome. It should always be flattering that a "nonIranian", so to speak , takes an interest. If it bugs you, then skip her posts, but show your "proud Iranianness" by "observing" what we are famous for : HOSPITALITY:)
hah... they've doing this in Iran for years!
by sima on Fri Nov 16, 2007 09:50 AM PSTDo you remember TV shows in Iran the early years after the revolution? Hours and hours of bees buzzing and birds fluttering and light reflecting on water -- winking many many more times than "twice"!
Sunrise Earth
by bahram9821 on Fri Nov 16, 2007 09:02 AM PSTTo Observer:
by Proud Irooni (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 08:48 AM PSTI agree. This Rosie isn't even Iranian and she just talks and talks. But since JJ is trying to get us to be more tolerant, I have to admit her stupid posts mostly harp on one thing. Something about the multi-layered Iranian identity and its historical roots in religion, ethnicity and tradition. Or something like that. And she just seems to just stick it in EVERYWHERE. But since like you I don't read her, I don't understand it. And I don't see why I should. She shouldn't even be writing here. Let's never mention her again, you and me.

Got it!
by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Nov 16, 2007 07:57 AM PSTThanks Rosie! I made the correction.
And talk as much as you like :o)
Too Much Talking
by observer (not verified) on Fri Nov 16, 2007 07:47 AM PSTI wonder if Rosie has to have comments in almost every post (I say not). However since I have no control over that I just tune her out
Explanation of Problems
by Rosie T. on Fri Nov 16, 2007 07:41 AM PSTOh you silly thing. Your English is perfect. Your grammar is fantastic. Your comment about TV: "even though I had rarely watch" SURELY has more to do with coffee pills and Candy and the headaches posed by we your obstreperous children than anything else....As an instructor of writing to advanced ESL students at your alma mater, CUNY, Ayatollah Rosie Tozieh explains these "problems"...as nothing short of ...DELIGHTFUL.....
Grammar mammar
by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Nov 16, 2007 07:25 AM PSTRosie jaan,
My English is not very good. I don't spell well. My vocabulary is limited. Sentence structures are awkward. Vali obviously I don't care that much. As long as my point gets across.
Khasteh nabaashi...,.
by Rosie T. on Fri Nov 16, 2007 07:04 AM PSTCareful, javidi-joon...our poetry is rising and your grammar is slipping, and well...you know what happened to me.... ;P
