Uncle Latif

Uncle Latif

I visited my Ammeh Parvin yesterday. She lost Latif Ramazan-Nia, her husband of 63 years, less than a month ago. I had tremendous respect for him. He had a dignified, no-nonsense manner with a generous heart. When I was growing up in Abadan, to me he symbolized professional success. He had the air of a leader and WAS a leader. In the late 1960s he was the head of the largest refinery in the world in Abadan -- and the first Iranian in that position.

My cousin Nersi drove us to the Valley Memorial cemetery in Novato, less than an hour north of San Francisco, to visit Uncle Latif's grave in a green plot surrounded by hundreds of other Iranians. "There would have been a lot fewer of these graves if the revolution had not happened," I heard someone say. So true. At least they would have died in their own country >>> see photos essay

I didn't know Mr Ramazan-Nia until I read that blog of Nersi about him.

A big loss for all the Iranian. May his soul rests in peace. My condolences to you and your aunt's family.

and my condolence to you and your family.

The tragedy of 79 was that we took a whole generation of honorable men, replaced them with with dishonorable subhumans (Namard) and gave them a blank check to murder our best, make the rest refugees and burn the following 2 generations and the country into the ground.

I shiver to think of 31 years of wasted talent, energy and nation building. The dozens and hundreds of capable professional that could have been trained and mentored by your uncle and those like him. That instead may be honing their skills in tyranny, corruption, murder, or chasing a meals for their family as they waste away in a dead end state of affairs.

Dobare misazamat vatan.

I hate this business of people dying in exile. I'll never get used to it -- but heck, it will happen to ourselves in not too-distant of a future! Tasliyat to all of you. Love to all the family.

A truly great man

Him and my uncle Abbas were good friends, as they both worked for the same organization and often saw each other here in the US after the dreaded revolution.  that country lost so many good people then, and now it still continues to loose these brains.  heif.  May he rest in peace.
