MAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN
by n.zanincanadai on Mon May 05, 2008 07:17 AM PDTMAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN Jahanshah said poopoo!!!! Give him a time out. That's a bafwoom wod.
If anyone knows of a place of the obscene please post it. Sometimes, I need a nice knock in the face to wake up in the morning. Posts about Javad dances and asking hillary to say she's sorry doesn't cut if for this poo poo pee pee world. Sometimes, I like to hear someone tell it like it is.
What's obscene...my mother things Viagara jokes are obscene and she didn't like the goh joke that JJ posted. I was laughing like a lunatic and she looked at me like she pitied herself for having mothered me. She said..."akhe in chizaro ke behet yaad mideh? khejalat nemikeshi...masalan zaneh gondeh bayad sangin bashe"
Ah... the age old question of obecenity! Good thing big brother can clarify it for us :) Here, JJ decides. So, I for one try very hard to listen. I never want that email to fall in my inbox. It would be very embarassing.
I wonder if it's ok to talk about sexual things like masterbation. On the female side I've written about it but in a mysterious way. I never got banned. I think it's a question of how you maneuver. It's pretty free here. I appreciate that.
JJ is right though I mean it does get boring to see f**k over and over again. It's a sacred word if you ask me and should only be used when needed. Mazzash mire. That's why the Persian equivalent is so bad, we haven't been desensitized to it yet.
Amen!
frequently? NO GOOD. occasionally OK !
by kalvoks_ on Mon May 05, 2008 05:13 AM PDTFrequency! I have not received any such e-mail from you.
What else is there to say!
As I said earlier, I have no problem with the basic Premise.
Frequency
by Jahanshah Javid on Mon May 05, 2008 04:21 AM PDTOk Kalvoks, you have not used fuck or shit at all or rarely. But you have used some form of obscenity in nearly all your posts and that's not going to fly here. I did warn you once by email not to do this.
As I said, using any curse word occasionally or to make a point or... is fine. But when done constantly or frequently, it's unacceptable.
Hypocrisy : Jews and Shit ( IN THE NEWS )
by kalvoks_ on Mon May 05, 2008 03:59 AM PDTA Google search for the word fuck on Iranian.com comes up with 1,160 pages. In each instance the word is used merely for purpose of vulgarity.
BUT how can you write about the following :
//www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/...
Without mentioning JEWS and shit in the same sentence ?
I happen to write a political critique that literally questioned obsession with SHIT !
JJ, do you see the hypocrisy ?
Go ahead draw the sacred line ?
Being an adminstrator is a tough job
by samsam1111 on Sun May 04, 2008 08:59 PM PDTI,ve been a member only 2 weeks but my impression is that ,JJ probably has to make tons of judgmental decisions relating to comments and topics every day.It,s definitly walking on a fine line and yes, he might make a mistake in the reader,s view from time to time (He censored one of my comments) but overall it,s pretty even sided.Checking the web will show you that 9 outa 10 persian sites are regime operated and pro regime and average guy (never mind opposition) can,t get a one liner comment in there.We should all appreciate what this JJ dude is doing , no matter his motives.He is giving us all a free tool to express our selves , be it idiotic or wise...So Respect , behave using your common sense and Express yourself!!!
Regards!
Ali P, I disagree with
by n.zanincanadai on Sun May 04, 2008 07:09 PM PDTAli P,
I disagree with you on one little point. JJ's best quality is the level of comfort he gives us. He has never been territorial about this site. So sure, he doesn't owe an explanation. But he's always been very generous and gracious. He's shared his private life here. That's why there's a level of expectation that you and I probably don't have from google or irandokht or other sites.
In any case, I think the best way to describe the rules on this site is that it goes by the honor system. One has to use one's own judgement about what might upset the King of the kings Eternal, or other readers. Then, one has to decide whether one wants to risk rocking the boat or not :)
It's a free country!
by Ali P. on Sun May 04, 2008 06:55 PM PDTAnyone can open a website, publish it on the net, and they don't have to get permission from anyone.
By the same token, they can let anyone post messages, or block anyone from posting, and don't owe any explanation to anyone.
1st amendment only applies to State's behavior, not to private conduct.
Bahram, There were no notice
by kalvoks_ on Sun May 04, 2008 03:40 PM PDTEven, follow up email went without any response as to the reason
why the account was blocked .

by Bahram the Iranian on Sun May 04, 2008 11:44 AM PDTdid you get a notice or reminder piror to suspension?I agree with jj ,after all this is a public place and we should behave properly. however I agree with you that many other use an offensive language here and get away with it.
kalvos here we got gangs and they post under different names, i can tell by their writting styles but remember this is western world and a site like this is surely under the watch.
stay put and maybe we can make a difference here.
kalvoks...give us a break
by Faramarz_Fateh on Sun May 04, 2008 08:50 AM PDTmarde momen, do you and your likes HAVE TO bring Israel into every conversation?
I was more on your side until I read your Israel comment.
JJ....please ban kalvoks_ as well
Why don't you start your own
by Anonymousaa (not verified) on Sun May 04, 2008 08:31 AM PDTWhy don't you start your own blog K???It's free and really easy to set up...Wordpress and blogspot are Free!!!
Dear n.zanincanadai
by kalvoks_ on Sun May 04, 2008 07:56 AM PDTTHANK YOU for the kind words.
BABA BOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEE
by n.zanincanadai on Sun May 04, 2008 07:44 AM PDTFreedom of speech is almost ALWAYS defined by those in power. The peons can debate it but those in control define it. When our speech is inconvenient, we are told there's no such thing as 100% freedom of speech.
This is JJJ's site and he leaves this issue of curse words and censorship unresolved. There's never a guideline. I can only imagine it's because it's good for business. And why not? It's his playground! :) Besides, he's always busy!
Kalvoks, I suggest that you continue posting your articles but use F*** (replace command is easy). I love your postings. I save them. Or perhaps use various third parties so that it's not always some Russian cursing about the US. Mix it up. You can fly under the radar. Or even, create a few ids.
I read a comment by Siamack Salari with the word "cock" in it. And many comments and articles by others with curse words. They never get blocked! Of course, frequency is an issue. If you use the F word 100 times, some how, that's worse then saying cock just once. I don't know why because to me if something is wrong it's always wrong. Not once not a 100 times.
In anycase, I love Howard Stern. These clips are very interesting. He is always slammed with being indecent. Although sometimes he is, a lot of other times he isn't. And people more indecent than him are never fined. He is the only person I know that has always been open to talking about these issues and is ready to sit and publicly talk to anyone "in power" in order to prove his point.
At the end of the day, JJJ has created a medium for us to communicate. It's the best one so far. Even with it's many faults.
There should be some basic rules about what is and is not acceptable. But here, it's kinda like the honor system. If you break it and no one notices or doesn;t care, you're ok. But if you are blocked...you were noticed! Now JJ is great, I just wish he would spread his love a little more evenly :) Some others deserve to be blocked too. Me??? no way, I self censor. No need to waste tax payer and blog payer money or time.

You are not being honest
by kalvoks_ on Sun May 04, 2008 06:34 AM PDTYou are TOTALY not being honest.
First thanks for making Iranian.com available.
Second, though I agree with your basic Premise;
” But this is not the place for it. The point of having this site is to discuss, debate, understand and exchange ideas. Cursing and yelling and name-calling help none of that. They just make people angrier and angrier.”
However, I believe you are strongly biased both in the way you promote the articles on Iranian.com (I have no problem with this) and as far as your objection on my posts.
I believe it has to do more with the context/semantics in which the words are used that you find objectionable and not so much the specific words that are being used.
I am sure if I say;
IRAN/ISLAM … X/Y/Z.
This will be perfectly alright.
But if I say;
Israel/America X/Y/Z
this is totally objectionable.
In any case, I have simply posted articles by third party that contained the word “FUCK”.
I have never used the “F” word any where else.
Just to put things in prospective a Google search on following word on Iranian.com comes with the following result.
Results 1 - 10 of about 2,640 from iranian.com for dick.
Results 1 - 10 of about 98 from iranian.com for pussy.
Results 1 - 10 of about 2,300 from iranian.com for shit.
So, clearly it is not the words that bothers you but it is the way in which they are used to make a specific political point.
Just a reminder, you are living in a hyper sexual society in which sexual words are used to make a strong point by all, all the way from senators to presidents.
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SlPv263acA&feature...
Finally, as I said earlier, I have no problem with the basic Premise. If you find a certain list of words objectionable than the least you can do is to list them or provide a simple guideline.
However, you chose to simply block the account from posting ...
I am some what disappointed. But not too disappointed, I do realize we do not live in a vacuum; you like the rest of us have certain obligation to meet ….
In any event, I do respect your wish.
just make it clear.
Is it permissible to post political articles containing the word “shit” and “fuck”?
And PLEASE PLAY IT FAIR ...
I know you are under some presure ... BE STRONG
Again, THANKS.
Damn right you were blocked
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun May 04, 2008 04:40 AM PDTIf you use vulgarity in your headlines and comments again, your new account will also be blocked.
The internet has limitless space. Go say fuck and shit a million times a day against whoever you want, but say them somewhere else please.
A few years ago Harper's magazine published an amazing letter to Congress by some American writer or professor. The guy used every curse word you can imagine to condemn a proposed bill in Congress to penalize/criminalize vulgarity on the internet. There were juicy curse words in every single sentence. He was using his First Amendment right to the fullest and in the most provocative way.
But the same guy would not defend free speech in every circumstance. You cannot walk into a classroom and start cursing. The First Amendment does not cover that. You have no right to enter someone's home and start shouting. And the example often used is that you cannot shout fire in a crowded theater. You're not even allowed to whisper in a library for heaven's sake!
iranian.com is not a library, theater, private home or classroom. But it is a space for civil discourse. You cannot constantly throw around obscenities. I'm not against saying fuck and shit or any other curse word. All who know me hear those words from me in almost every conversation.
But this is not the place for it. The point of having this site is to discuss, debate, understand and exchange ideas. Cursing and yelling and name-calling help none of that. They just make people angrier and angrier.
I hope this time your membership in iranian.com lasts longer than the previous.
