The latest installment in the series chronicling my journey into my Persian roots. This fascinating episode speaks about the amazing Hafiz... :D

by KamranDanceTeacher on Tue Jul 26, 2011 12:17 PM PDTI check out Khayyam. For some reason I get more of a hip hop feel from him, in a good way, a kind of soulful confidence. Hafez is still my favorite. :) I haven't checked ou the videos though.
thanks Kamran for the video
by Anahid Hojjati on Tue Jul 26, 2011 06:01 AM PDTFidelio5 has good comments on this thread and i agree with him/her that although Hafiz is a more accomplished poet but I also prefer Khayyam. I think the recent movie that fidelio5 mentions is same one that I saw few years ago in Berkeley. Good movie.
groovy

nothing specicfic
by fidelio5 on Sun Jul 24, 2011 05:18 PM PDTThe Rubayat is his most popular and revered work.
It became quite a sensation in the west in the Late 19th Century
There's two english translations that are considerd the best. The Robert Lugalian and the edward fitzgerald.
Theres a couple of movies on him as well. An old 50's flick thats tounge in cheek, a more recent one by a iranian american film maker that's descent too.
Thank You

nice episode
by fidelio5 on Tue Jul 19, 2011 07:20 PM PDTI hope you explore Omar Khayam more.
He is my favorite Persian Poet and a remarkable mathmetician, astronomer and humanist. The history of the man mirrors his poetry.
I think he trumps Hafez, although arguably Hafez is a more accomplished poet in volume of work.
You're assessment of Rumi is right on.
