Are you proud to be Iranian? You should be! We’re going to make a movie and if you are truly proud to be Iranian then you should be in it. It is time to remind the world that Iranian people are not responsible for the shameful behaviour of the regime in Iran.
If you are not Iranian, but you still want to take part, you can make a staterment as a friend of the Iranian people or as a proxy for the unknown numbers of Iranians who have been arrested and imprisoned and whose names we do not even know.
Deadline: 1 April / 12 Farvardin LATEST
What do I have to do?
Make a short movie clip – use your mobile phone or digital camera – of you saying “I am PROUD to be Iranian! BUT I am ASHAMED of the Iranian regime because.. (then name one thing that you know the regime are responsible for that makes you feel truly ashamed and disgusted)” Get your friends and family involved too – they all deserve to be part of this!
For example:
“I am PROUD to be Iranian! BUT I am ASHAMED of the Iranian regime’s behavior towards political prisoners.”
Do I have to show my face?
No, you can hide or cover your face, or hold a poster or image in front of your face. Or do any other creative thing that you wish. It would be best to record your normal voice so that people can understand what you are saying.
Do I have to speak in Persian, English, or what?
You can speak in any language you like. If you also hold up a poster with your statement in English that would be GREAT because it will help spread your message to even more people!
Do I have to be Iranian?
If you are not Iranian, but you still want to take part, please do. Change the phrase to say “I am not an Iranian, but on behalf of..” then either state the name of an Iranian, for example Neda Agha Soltan, or a political prisoner in Iran [see below for a list of names] or a group “..I am ASHAMED of the Iranian regime because.. (state your reason)”
For example:
“I am not an Iranian but on behalf of the Mourning Mothers I am ASHAMED of the Iranian regime for the arrest and imprisonment of Majid Tavakoli”
Do I have to add background music or effects to my video clip?
No, all that will be done when the finished video is created.
OK I made my movie clip, where do I send it?
Please send your movie clip to virtualprotest@googlemail.com
Deadline: 1 April /12 Farvardin LATEST
I don’t have a camera, how can I take part?
If you have no access to a camera, please email your message to virtualprotest@googlemail.com
I don’t know what to say about the Iranian regime
Check here for a list of Human Rights violations attributed to the Iranian Regime.
Check here for a list of political prisoners in Iran.
Check here for people who have been killed during the political unrest following the election in June 2009 / Khordad 1388.
What will happen to the video?
We will send the video to the media, post it on every available platform, and make it the main feature on Global Freedom Movement’s web TV channel GFM_TV (//www.livestream.com/gfm_tv)

Shame on the human rights violating IRI

OK...
by PartyTimeExcellent on Wed Mar 31, 2010 02:32 PM PDTWhat exactly was the point of that comment? All you've done is shown everyone how much of an idiotic troll you are.
I find it amazing how much pointless hate is thrown around on the Internet. When someone is trying to do something positive by encouraging people to participate, to act, the inevitable response by people like capt_ayhab is to try and discourage and to undermine, rather than assist or provide constructive criticism.
Clearly you've shown your erudition with those marvelous analytical reasoning skills. Maybe you could, I don't know, try and do something constructive with your time. Or you could post some more stats or something.
Liss, rock on.
Responses
by capt_ayhab on Tue Mar 30, 2010 05:18 PM PDTStats;
You had total of 14 responses of which 4 were by yourself shouting at people.
2 of the which were arguing amongst themselves.
3 were asking questions of clarification.
1 was promoting his own agenda.
1 rebuttal between sargord and faryarm.
3 constructive comments.
4+2+3+1+1+3 = =15[including this last one]
Do not waste people's time on your wasteful imaginations just because you think it is good for country of 70 million.

Try this tip
by lissnup on Mon Mar 29, 2010 06:27 PM PDT@Raoul1955 I think one would know whether they are Iranian or not without anyone having to offer a definition. If you are struggling with this, think about someone like Farouk Farrokhzad - a person we all know is a proud Iranian. Think about Christiane Amanpour being publicly attacked for being Iranian. That should help.
Why "shame"
by lissnup on Mon Mar 29, 2010 06:22 PM PDT@ capt_ayhab Any suitable substitute would be acceptable:
disgrace, horror, dishonor.
Please try to see that the impact of this choice of words is designed to reflect that shame directly onto the Regime to force them to accept responsibility for their atrocious actions. No shame on the part of the person making the video is implied or intended.
Questions
by Raoul1955 on Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:53 AM PDTHow is this Iranian-ness defined? A citizen of Iran, or someone just calling herself/himself an 'Iranian?' It can't be an 'ethnicity' since there are many ethnic groups living in Iran, based on published material!
Also, aren’t such ‘declarations’ the result of one’s low self esteem?
Why [shame] though?
by capt_ayhab on Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:14 AM PDTI like the project you have started and hopefully your will receive many many clips.
However, why should anyone feel shamed when they had no hand in atrocities committed by the regime? i.e. a victim?
Do you not think rather than saying [I am ashamed] which might imply guilt, that they should say I STRONGLY CONDEMN [specific] actions of the regime?
Or if they chose to say[I am ashamed] shouldn't they say for instance [I am Ashamed of my silence], in respect to certain acts of regime

"Honey I brainwashed the kids"
It makes no sense
by Farah Rusta on Mon Mar 29, 2010 02:05 AM PDTOne may be a proud Iranian but it makes no sense for one to be proud to be an Iranian. Do you see the difference? It is just as meaningless to say that "I am proud to be white/black" or "I am proud to be a man/woman" or "I am proud to be blue/brown eyed". You can not be proud or ashamed of something you have not earned. We had no hand in choosing our place of birth and we have not taken part and won a competition to become Iranian (no point system that I know of).
So the whole suggestion is totally meaningless.
(now can I have my usual abusers shouting their pieces in the order of seniority :))

Dear Sargord...
by faryarm on Sun Mar 28, 2010 07:57 PM PDTSurely you mean:
"I am PROUD to be Iranian! And I am PROUD of the level of ISOLATION instead of independence achieved by the Islamic Republic of Iran." ?????
Are you really "PROUD"of the overwhelming level hypocrisy ,violent and shameful acts of self preservation, that have by now become apparent to the rest of the world, even to those who are beneficiaries of IRI's Billion Dollar handouts...
Dear Sargord,
Surely if you are a fair minded person you will not deny and close your eyes to the injustices committed in our country.
If you still insist on Independence rather than Isolation, then you too are regretfully siding with injustice and False Pride.
