thank you Jaleho

Yes, I know Ghasedak well. One of the most well known of Saales. Very beautiful poem, indeed.

Thanks for all the information and sources you provided. We will catch up in the future blogs of litterature and poetry now :o)

Jaleho

Thank you both, and a clarification

by Jaleho on

Wow Souri, what a FANTASTIC link you provided, it has most of the good poems of all the great poets of Iran, amazingly rich! And I read your other entry on Chavoshi, thanks again.

For some reason though, the link gives the first 7 "daftars" of Shafii Kadkani's poetry but stops with his "booyeh joyeh moolian" dafter of 1356, just before the revolution.  To complete that web site to the best of my knowledge and the one book that I searched and found in my house,  the following daftars must be added which represent his work of 1376 on:

Now the clarification:

Manoucher tried to remind me of the symbolic form of Sals' "zemestan" as the political atmosphere of Iran during Shah. Then, he referred to Sales being asked later on if "zemestan" with that meaning had ended (i.e. post revolution), which Manoucher believed Sales' answer was a short cut for: "NOT"

I tried to play the game by providing a poem of Kadkani on that very same meaning by that short poem (its name is not zemestan):

گنجشک در تمام زمستان

ز اشتیاق

از بس که بهر باغ و بهار انتظار دید

گلهای نقش کاشی مسجد را

در نیمه‌های دی

صبح بهار دید

That is, I was alluding to Kadkani's use of "golhaye kashi masjed", with its Islamic intonation, as a "fake" sign of a "spring morning" and end of "zemestan".

However, I was not sure which daftar that particular poem belonged, and thus in what year (or decade) it has been written. Wanted to make sure that "golhaye kashi masjed" was after the Islamic revolution.

Anyway, yesterday, I looked up in some dusty books around the house, and although I did not find a date for that particular poem, I found out that it belonged to dafter 9. above: "khati az deltangi "-probably 60s or early 70s, whith his typical allusion of conversion of hope to despair.

Also, Kadkani being a "morid" of "Sales", has played and refers a lot to Sales poems. For example in another poem of the same dafter (No. 9) he says:

خبرهاشان دروغین است،

قاصدک‌ها بس که بسیارند.

I am sure that you know Ghasedak poem by Sales. The interested reade can find it in the excellent link that Souri provided:

Dear friends

I did a long search on the web, but couldn't find the poem of Kadkani with the special name of " zemestan". Maybe that poem has another name ? Just wondering

Here's a link with all the beautiful works of Kadkani. Our dear friend, Jaleho, seems to be well informed about Kadkani's work. I hope he will find that great poem and it's date too. Here's the link

//www.avayeazad.com/shafii_kadkani/list.htm

Me, I always love that poem I post for JJ, last time. Here it is

and Manoucher jan, thanks for the beautiful beit you just said

Thank you for coming and I appreciate your comment.  Can you, please, answer Jaleho's question about the timing of Mr. Kadkanee's Zemestan?  I hope you forgive me for speaking in your behalf.

Sepaas.

And if you forgive me further:

! What a surprise

: I love the whole " ghasideh" of Chavoshi, like you, but this part

: and also this one

Perhaps, you are right as I have written those few lines from memory.  Frankly, I have not even read majority of Mr. Akhavaan's poem.  What drags me in poetry, primarily, is the music and the flow of words.  So, some of his works can never leave me alone as it is true in the case some of Sepehree's and Mr. Kadkanee's poems.  Unfortunately, with plenty of respect, I am not deeply familiar with Mr. Kadkanee either; and I do not know much about Mr. Kadkanee's Zemestan either.  Happily, we have Souri here.  She has a good memory of these poems and knows a lot about their timing.  I will ask her about the timing. Believe or not, I have none of these great names' works with me and do not know how to access them on the web.

It is a real joy to converse with you.  Sepaas.

Hey Souri!!

by Jaleho on

Now we have more than one thing in common, I also like Chavoshi better than zemestan :-)

The line :

jahan pir ast o bi bonyad

az in Farhad kosh faryad

never failed to give me a goose bump.

Souri

Wow.....what's going on here ?

by Souri on

This blog became a real poetry room now ! I just love it :O)

Jaleho : I didn't know you had a taste for poetry too ? This is great. Although we disagree in most of subjects, but I am so happy to see a common point of interest  with you.

I love Akhavan Sales too. Do you remember his "Chavoshi" poem ?  I love it even more than the "zemestan" ....I will try to find it on the net and post it here for all.

Manouchehr jan: You just proved you are the best in this domain !! Every time, you replied a friend with a beautiful and meaningful poem.

What we call " Felbadaheh" poetry. Congratulation my dear. Keep on doing your great job...and thank you.

Cute game and I got to play with this beh-nevis that I just discovered, fun fun!

Sales used to be my No.1 favorite modern poet (still is), and I used to have all of Zemestan and akhar shahnameh memorized at one point. I wish I had the books now to read it completely, I miss it just reading your few lines. BTW, if I remember correctly, the second line didn't have (Keh), did it? Long time ago, my memory might be rusty.

Also, I wish I knew the date of that M. SereshK (Shafii Kadkani) zemestan I wrote for you, might you know by any chance, or the decade?

Thanks again.

There is no question that you are right, however in regard to that specific question and answer the whole argument is directed at Akhavaan's famous poem of "Winter" Zemestaan.  Every symbol in that piece is about the appaling ruling atmosphere after 1953 coup (Beesto Hasht Mordaad 1332) in Iran.  Now, over thirty years after, if someone asks if it were still Winter.  The inquirer is asking about Mr. Akhavaan's opinion about Islamic Republic after repressions of 1961.  Still, I agree with you winter is awesomelly beautiful.

Manoucheher, regarding seasons

by Jaleho on

""Some people ask me Mr. Akhavaan is it still Winter; and I say Aziz
Jaan; Saal Chaar Fasl Daarad Va Yekee Az Aanhaa Zemestaan Ast."

Right, and each season has its own symbolic meaning and its own beauty too. Unfortunately, I do not have your poetic talent to respond in kind like you do, but I hope you'd enjoy a relevant poem by Kadkani since your original poem reminded me of his poetry.

In the despair of 1990-91, that I had lately arrived to Canada, at a friend's house I listened to Akhavaan's recorded interview on tape where he says:

"Some people ask me Mr. Akhavaan is it still Winter; and I say Aziz Jaan; Saal Chaar Fasl Daarad Va Yekee Az Aanhaa Zemestaan Ast."

Obviously, those who have asked him if it was still winter have done so sometime after 1981.  Puting Akhavaan's response in the context of years after 1981, we understand that he is trying to evade the direct answer that Winter was, indeed, still there and was still ruling the land.  I really do not think he was in a different mood.  He was just trying to avoid a direct response.  Reprssion was a factor.  For me, definately, it is not always spring.

Dear Manouchehr

by Jaleho on

I completely agree that the venue provided by Iranian.com for artistic expression like yours is invaluable, its very best use. And, we are very thankful that poetry like yours is accessible to us.

By the way, in your last poem you alluded to different moods felt by Sales, whom I love. But, for some reason I found a great similarity between that poem and those of in my opinion  underestimated poetry of Shafii Kadkani. I know he's famous, but I think not as much appreciated as he should be. Anyway, thanks again.
