Not surprised at the news....he was ousted from the Obama White House...as yet anothe loser Obama had recruited in his team....and ususaly these types end up with a University jobs ...in Vali Nasr case - a Dept. Financed by IR was quiet appropriate. He now joins the ranks of Mansour Farhang, Dabashi, Milani, Amir Ahmadi .....and many others like him who sold Iran out. Check every University with a Middle Eastern Studies Dept., and they are out there.....
But what made me make this blog was the congrats Vali Nasr recieved from many here.....some even called Vali Nasr the most level-headed individual........ Now here is my question - especially to JJ: Can a person who is teaching the world on how Islam is responsible for all social, scientific, and artistic progress in the Middle East be considered LEVEL-HEADED????? Should he be teaching anything about the Middle East??

My Problem With Nasr
by bahmani on Sat Mar 31, 2012 09:55 AM PDTClearly, he understands what happened. I say happened, because all of his "analysis" is post game.
I have never read a single word by Nasr predicting what "Will" or even "Might" happen.
This is probably why they hire them for a couple years and see if they can predict the future. When they see they can't they toss them aside, and find another one who might be better.
And honestly, University or the "Study of what Happened", is probably the best place for an out of work soothsayer. If it was an audit and free, I'd love to take his class on "Post Revolution Iran 210 - The Iran-Iraq War".
The scary question now, is who they've got in his place. Maybe Karim Sadjadpour?

Dear JJ - Thanx for this forum - Ma baftim shoma nakhar! In this court of public opinion, I rest my case.
Sousan Khanom - are you still fighting the crusades? If so too bad - but if you must, you shall never have a better weapon than the Persian Culture....and never a weaker shield than Islam.
He is a Seyyed.

Advocating tolerance is one thing, but condoning capital punishment in the form of religion is wrong.
But what really makes it worse is how such "educated" people chose to place Islamic so called "morality" over as Iranian. That is an insult to all who wrote the Zend Avesta.

Anyone who is attending college in the U.S
by Soosan Khanoom on Sat Mar 31, 2012 10:02 AM PDTwill be lectured on the major contribution that Islam did to the field of science. This actually goes back to Spain and Golden Age of Islam. All you need to take is an undergrad course in the Religion Studies which is actually one of the general electives that one needs to pass in order to graduate.
Sometimes the hatered that one has can blind him or her to see the reality. The facts are there whether one likes it or not.
bebin... nashod!
by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Mar 30, 2012 02:08 PM PDTSo Nasr didn't say "Islam is responsible for all social, scientific, and artistic." You just made that up. He did NOT say any such thing.
And you still haven't showed any proof for your claim that that department received money from the IRI. The link to the Alavi Foundation does not indicate any such thing.

Chakhan?!!
by masoudA on Fri Mar 30, 2012 01:48 PM PDTJJ - You did not answer the obvious question - but I won't hold it aginst you. After all you are a well known individual and in the light while I am just someone behind a keyboard. Maybe the question was unfair to begin with.
As for your questions:
1- Guess who said this?: "As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam -- at places like Al-Azhar -- that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities -- (applause) -- it was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality". It was Obama - the president of the United States with Nasr as his ME advisor.
2- As for Bonyad Alavi foundation funding Middle Eastern/Islamic Education Departments in American Universities........It is still out there on their website Check it out: //www.alavifoundation.org/financials.html

by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Mar 30, 2012 12:27 PM PDTMasoud Khan, I'll answer any question that make sense. Just because YOU say Nasr believes "Islam is responsible for all social, scientific, and artistic progress in the Middle East" doesn't mean it's true. Where has he said that?

by masoudA on Fri Mar 30, 2012 12:23 PM PDTJJ I asked you first - please answer my question then we will get to yours.
Here it is again: Can a person who is teaching the world on how Islam is responsible for all social, scientific, and artistic progress in the Middle East be considered LEVEL-HEADED????? Should he be teaching anything about the Middle East??

by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:23 AM PDTMasoud Khan, the department that hired Vali Nasr is "financed by IR"? What is going on in your head, never mind Nasr's :)
Can you please share your information? When did the IR finance that department? How much?
And can you please explain when/where did Vali Nasr say "Islam is responsible for all social, scientific, and artistic progress in the Middle East"?
Vali Nasr has been an academic at some of the best American universities and an adviser to the US administration. You know why? Because they value his mind.
That is why Iran is in ruins. Because we don't value or respect intellect. Because people like Masoud Khan would not allow the likes of Nasr to be hired even as a teacher in an elementary school, let alone a university.
God Bless America!
