"Case 3- SArabia ties with both SKorea and NKorea, then SArabia will have 10+1+1=12 points and NKorea will have 11+1=12 points.
..........Iran must beat both UAE and SKorea to get 13 point for second place (automatic qualification). Tie with SKorea in this case mean 11 points and Iran is out. "

Dear Mehman,
by Analyzer (not verified) on Mon Jun 08, 2009 11:08 PM PDTMy prediction is that Iran will beat UAE at home 2-0 and tie with South Korea 1-1 for 11 points. SArabia will tie with South Korea and beat North Korea to get 14 points. This means North Korea with 11 point will be eliminated and Iran will take the 3rd place and will have to go through playoff with Bahrain. Iran will beat Bahrain at home 2-1 and tie with Bahrain 1-1 in Bahrain. Then, Iran will beat NZ at home 2-0 and NZ will beat Iran 2-1 this will take Iran to the world cup in SA.
I think my prediction is very reasonable; welcome anyone to argue with it.

by Kourosh12 (not verified) on Mon Jun 08, 2009 10:20 PM PDTIt must be a real case of "kafgeer be tahe deeg khordan" that somone would do an article on how countries that are run by dictatorships, perform poorly in the international arena!
Iraian team in general, has one major problem and that is the lack of confidence, ragardless of how much of technically superior team we have in the game. If they resolve that, i think pretty much everything else falls into place.
I think we should err on the side of caution, and realize that, based on past performances, we can't expect a high-scoring game regardless of which one of their stars plays. It will be a close game, and a 2-1 or 2-0 will likely be the winning score. One Victory and a tie against S.korea is all we should expect with the current style of play our team has adopted.

sports no politics plz
by Anonymousb (not verified) on Mon Jun 08, 2009 07:31 PM PDTbringing politics into sports is not good and accurate.
Saudi Arabia became 3 times Asian champions, so did Iran before the 1979, Also Uruguay 2 times world chanpions and Brazil 3 times world champion before 1970 ( no democracy in Brazi till 20 years ago), and Russia once in the European championship in the early 1960 and the most obvious example is Iraq under Saddam in the beginning of the war with Iran, they were one of the 2 Asian teams qualifying for the world cup and did very well in there! and other examples in soccer could be found.
So when you come to Sports you can leave aside your politics for a while and enjoy the sport. cheers!

Nothing makes me more proud to see Iranians doing well, specially our Team Meli. But I think we should all be realistic. Do not want to get into political stuff, but I read an article that the countries which have dictatorship never excel in sports in global arena. They did that study specially for soccer and Germany and some other countries where the case studies. So that is all, But I wish all the team members BEST OF LUCK, I know they are full of hope and the only thing they are thinking is to make iranians proud.
GO TEAM MELI Go....
My guess

if team melli loses to UAE
by azadi55 (not verified) on Mon Jun 08, 2009 05:35 PM PDTif team melli loses to UAE they honestly don't deserve to go to World Cup. Let's hope they kick their ass.
Enough already
by Anonymousa (not verified) on Mon Jun 08, 2009 05:30 PM PDTbaba, bekhoda if we even win these two games, we are going to terrrrr in World Cup. Let the embaressment be locally only in Asia, I really do not want to see our a** kicked in World Cup arena.
