"Iranian director Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, has documented how a wide coalition of women was formed in Iran, prior to the June 2009 presidential elections, in order to make their demands heard and to effectively influence the candidates. Among the the demands of the women was for Iran to join the U.N.'s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
This documentary was prepared without taking sides in the elections. And once it had been completed, the four presidential candidates were invited to attend a special screening. All but Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accepted the invitation. The other other candidates, Mehdi Karrubi, Mir Hossein Mousavi, and Mohsen Rezaei, attended the screening along with their wives.
The plan was to distribute this film widely in Iran prior to the elections. However, since it was completed too close to the elections, this didn't materialize. The director has now granted permission for non-commercial screenings of the film in Iran in order to bring awareness to the women issues."

Education of women!
by Anita on Thu Jul 23, 2009 02:59 PM PDT"particular emphasis should be placed on the education of women and the importance of their unique contribution to the advancement of civilization. While universal compulsory education applies to both sexes, because of woman's role as mother and first educator of the child, the education of women is more important than that of men, and if parents are unable to fulfill their duty to educate both boy and girl in a family, the girl should be given preference. This is not to imply that women are to be considered only in relationship to the rearing of children and the duties of the household; for it is important that women develop all latent capacities, obtaining by way of their constructive pursuits the recognition of complete equality"

Rakhshan Bani-Etemad
by Anonymouse on Thu Jul 23, 2009 05:11 AM PDTRakhshan Bani-Etemad is great. She also went to same Melli University and graduated the same year as Mousavi. Her works are fullfilling and great works of art. I've seen many of them and love the way the announcer prounouces her name during her movie trailers ... A film from Rakhshaaaaan-e Baneeeee Etemaaaad!
The women of Iran have stood fast and against the arcane rules of the Islamic Republic. If it was not because of Iranian women we'd be living like Taliban. Our men mostly shut themselves up.
Everything is sacred.
Mona jan thank you for posting this.
by Tahirih on Wed Jul 22, 2009 06:40 PM PDTThe world of humanity has two wings—one is women and the other men. Not until both wings are equally developed can the bird fly. Should one wing remain weak, flight is impossible. Not until the world of women becomes equal to the world of men in the acquisition of virtues and perfections, can success and prosperity be attained as they ought to be. ( Abdulbaha)

by javaneh29 on Wed Jul 22, 2009 02:37 PM PDTI should probably wait until after I have watched these to comment but I thank you for posting them. I have shared these with my fb friends ... I think it is important to give the women of Iran as much credit as we can. They have lived under this misogynostic regime for 30 yrs ..... I am so happy to see they are speaking out. I am hopeful that good things will come from this time in Irans history for women.
