Jar of Hearts

There have been several occasions in my life that I watched an unknown (or not well known) artist and felt convinced that he/she will become famous or a song for that matter.  Prince, John Mellencamp (who was known as John Cougar at the time) and Pink are PERFECT examples of such artists and When Doves Cry (Prince), Jack and Dianne (John Cougar), Family Portrait and Just Like a Pill (Pink) were songs that became chart toppers.

I had the same feeling yesterday when I heard "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri.  I think this is going to become a famous song.

Well let's see how accurate I am. Here is the lyrics and the video.  What do you think?

I know I can't take one more step towards you
Cause all that's waiting is regret
And don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

And it took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed
Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
Don't come back for me
Don't come back at all

Who do you think you are?
Who do you think you are?
Who do you think you are?

A friend's opinion

by Nahzi on

A friend of mine sent his comment to ME.  I am publishing our exchange here with his permission:

I just listened to the music. I liked it a lot. The video was amazing too. She reminds me of Jewel a bit. She's darker though. Like a mixture of Jewel in terms of words and Bjork in terms of visual aspects :) I don't know how famous she's gonna get though. It all depends on cultural acceptance in this country, which apparently I'm not an expert on. I understand why you like this song so much and I generally trust your intuition on things such as who is gonna make it big and so forth. However, I don't see Prince's level of stardom in her. Not in this culture and society...
As usual great post Nahzi! Keep it up...

My reply to his comment:

I AGREE with you about HER "stardom" and I will NEVER compare her to Prince or many artists for that matter.
What I wrote, was I think THE SONG will become famous.
Please take a look again not only to clarify it for yourself but also to be able to answer this question:
Is it NOT clear that I am talking about the song? Because if I am not clear, I need to either modify it or make a comment about it in the blog (as an added comment).
Please let me know. SHE is NOT star quality not to mention PRINCE SIZE star quality. The SONG is very good though.

May I copy your opinion to the COMMENT section of the blog?

His reply?

On the second time I read your post, it becomes clear that you are talking about the song. Yes since you start by talking about artists in the fist paragraph it seems like you are saying that through the song you see the artist becoming famous too.

You can copy and paste this to your comments.
