My Dear Fellow Iranian.com Community:
You must have seen the advertisement for Iranian.com’s upcoming April 19th event in San Francisco on the site by now. Do you know what the occasion is? Are you planning to attend?
Iranian.com needs your help and support to sustain its activities and to grow to accomplish some of its development goals. A group of the site’s friends, volunteers, and writers are having this event in honor of the site’s founder, Jahanshah Javid, and as a means to raise funds for its continued growth. If you live in this area, or if you find it appealing enough to travel for it, I would like to urge you all to come and spend an evening “hanging out” with JJ and other fellow writers and readers of Iranian.com.
It will be an evening to remember, I can assure you! Come and be seen in person and meet others. All net proceeds from the evening’s admissions, donations, and auctions will be used to help Iranian.com become an even stronger medium, continuing its unparalleled and long-standing service to the Iranian community worldwide. If you can’t attend, but would still like to help, I urge you to send in your donations online here, or by US Mail to: Wayne Willis, Business Manager; Iranian LLC; 507 Mariani Lane; San Jose CA 95112.
As a contributing writer and volunteer for the site, it will be my personal pleasure to see you there. So, reserve your tickets, pull out your suits and dresses and dancing shoes and join me and others in celebrating the site’s 13 years of tireless activity, and in honoring Jahanshah Javid for it. Come ready to have a good time! See you there!
Your Friend,
Nazy Kaviani

I will donate in money order baba!
by Anonymouse on Thu Mar 27, 2008 05:16 AM PDTI encourage everyone to donate too. Although I must say this is most unusual but unique where artists and cartoonists like Hajiagha who should be paid or at least can use donations themselves, donate both their art and money to this cause! Khordan ham az akhor ham az kiseh.
I sure wish I could be there. I would come as just another Iranian in another concert without introducing myself. Sounds like a fun event.
As far as taking pictures with JJ and paying for it, poor JJ is going to be roasted big time no matter what he does. You can also put him in a chair over a pool and have people throw a ball and drop him in the pool if they hit the bulls eye!
Guaranteed Success!
by Mersedeh on Thu Mar 27, 2008 01:41 AM PDTThere is just something in the Northern Cali air that mixes with Iranian blood to create this burst of goodwill and camaraderie; it is just contagious! I might just have to show up to this event dressed up as a red goldfish!!!
No, but in all seriousness, Nazy Jan, I think it is great that as a volunteer, you have given yourself enough ownership to promote the website the way that you have and I know how much Jahanshah appreciates all of your efforts, as well as that of the many other contributors, editors and volunteers without which the growth of Iranian.com would not have feasibly reached the samed magnitude it has in recent years.
Now, as for the upcoming event, I have a suggestion for Ms. Welsh on how we can earn some extra cash without much added work for that evening...I suggest that we create a "Take-Your-Picture-with-Jahanshah" photo booth or area, both since he is going to be the main celebrity of the evening, and because he is so bad at being a celebrity which makes his "celebrity" even more in demand (high-paparazzi-demand), .... So you can hire a professional photographer for the evening, have him walk around and those who want to have a picture with Mr. Javid can pose and then at the end of the night, then can pick up their prints and pay a hefty (pre-determined) sum, which will also go towards the evening's grand total.... (We could even expand this concept to include the other ""stars"" of the evening)
What do you think? If you can find a red goldfish outfit, I'll volunteer to wear that and be his date :)

by Lalé Shahparaki Welsh on Wed Mar 26, 2008 06:59 PM PDTThank you Nazy for posting this blog about the event and generating so much well deserved good will for jahanshah and Iranian.com.
I have to say as one of the organizers of this event, I am so proud of our community. This kind of philanthropy is new for us and yet everyone is being so supportive and generous. Not only have over 20 artists come forward to offer their craft for free, but the sheer volume of well wishers is humbling for me to see, so I can only imagine how JJ must be feeling!
I just want to say that the tickets are almost gone and this event will definietly sell out, so please don't leave your purchase to the last minute (like we tend to do) as there will not be any left and I'm telling you guys now, there's not much we can do once we reach the fire law capacity.
I can't wait to mee so many of you whose comments I have laughed at and sometimes got fired up about. So do come introduce yourselves (if you don't mind blowing your cover:) !

Dear Nazy..
by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 02:23 PM PDTThis is just a thought:
You had this write up as an invitation for Iranian.com upcoming April 19th event... As we notice some people are not able to participate in the event, and some are interesting in donating money... Since majority of the site hits is to main page of Iranian.com, my guess is if you move this blog and discussion to the Homepage more people will read it, and may result in more participations in terms of donating money...
Union or it's re-union? And an idea
by Majid on Wed Mar 26, 2008 01:59 PM PDTAs much as I love to be there, I/we might not be able to, due to the distance, we'll try to but if we can't make it , the cost of the trip will go to donation.
I have an idea though, if some people from So Cal can't make it up there, lets have our southern version of it ! at a later time.
I,m sure if we do/when we do, His majesty JJ wouldn't mind to take the trip down here and join his fans!
In such a case I'll be his host for the event.
P.S. Remember that I'll be the first in line JJ !
P.P.S. This "sizdah bedar" in Mason park in Irvine,I'll put up a little sign that reads I.C. for "iranian.com". so, if you spot such a sign please stop by and let's meet.
Money order it is. I'll
by Anonymously (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 01:48 PM PDTMoney order it is. I'll take option 2 with money order.
PS it will be nice to see JJ in a nice dress since he commented in the norooz pictures from SF supervisor's office that he is a fashion critic now!;) So I hope we see him dress sharp and for the occasion not in his flattened Clarks shoes!
I will not miss it!
by Helaleh Farahbakhsh (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 01:11 PM PDTMany thanks to Dear Nazy and Jahanshah,
Who can miss a "When in doubt, write! Nothing is sacred!" event?
I can not wait to come and have already bought my ticket. It is one of those events that you highlight in your claendar and make sure you make any other engagement around that day go away! I think it is really high time for having this event and let all Iranian.com fans gather in one place and cherish this much needed avant-garde tolerance-raising move in our culture!
Checks in the mail
by From New York (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 12:43 PM PDTDear JJ,
I've been an avid reader of your site for such a long time. While i won't be able to make it to your event, I am dropping a check in the mail as my way of saying Thank you! A small donation I know, but a great cause! I love the new website more than the old one and understand why you've gone over-budget. Its expensive to upgrade to a social networking site. I hope you even make it better.
I hope this labor of love will continue. Good or bad, we're Iranian and MUST support our own. Even if we don't agree sometimes with other points of view. For me, to see others points of view only allows us to make ours better. So, thank you for all this hard work and dedication to us nomads for making our lives better, for cheering us up, for letting us know that our values however Iranian matter! I'm sure your event will have a few of your tears rolling! I sure hope so. You've made me cry many times! Now its your turn!
Looking forward to seeing the pics on the site!
Nazanine - Merci! You're simply great!

by Anonymouse on Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:01 AM PDTIt will be fun if we can see some friendly boxing matches with gloves or sumo wrestling in inflated sumo outfits with the contributors who are at times at each other's throats :-) Children have jumping baloons, adults or in our case Children young as 40 or 50 can relieve some steam in a sumo match!
You guys blow me away!
by Nazy Kaviani on Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:51 AM PDTDear All:
Heeh, what fun to write about JJ and his event, because by default I'm graced with the honor of so many Iranian.com luminaries' comments on my blog!
I so wish you could all come to an event which truly belongs to each and every one of you as readers, volunteer writers, and contributors make Iranian.com what it is. In my opinion, Jahanshah's true gift and contribution to the Iranian community outside Iran has been to provide the platform and circumstances where so many people feel free and encouraged to express their opinions and to keep Iranian.com so alive and exciting. Iranian.com is the voice of many who increasinly feel comfortable in saying their piece. Come to your own event if you can, and show your support for the cool man in the center of all the celebrations!
I have checked with the gods and here are answers to questions regarding how to make donations to Iranian.com.
1. If you can, please make an online donation, using a PayPal account (if you have it) or a credit card.
2. You can make a donation by check or money order, payable to Iranian LLC. Please mail your check or money order to:
Iranian LLC
Attention: Mr. Wayne Willis, Business Manager
507 Mariani Lane
San Jose CA 95112
3. Please do not send cash. Money orders are safe instruments which can also protect your anonymity if that's your choice.
4. No donation is too small. Please give whatever feels comfortable to you to keep Iranian.com alive and kicking and improving. Helping an important and vital venue of Iranian culture and information to sustain itself is a gift that keeps on giving back to you and to the thriving new generation of Iranians born and raised abroad. Please help keep it alive!
Money order..
by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 08:35 AM PDTWe can get money order from post office or our bank without our name on it. I usually get it from my bank. Money Order has two sheets with a tracing number on them. It is exactly like a check with its copy. As we are writing the information, we are making a copy on the second sheet. The first sheet is given out and the copy is kept by owner. In certain period of time if money order is not cashed, we can go back to our bank with owner copy and claim the money back.
JJ are you going to wear a tuxedo?
by Anonymouse on Wed Mar 26, 2008 08:34 AM PDTBlack tie or white tie?! we need nice photos to remember you by. This could become an annual event.
Can't wait to see you
by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Mar 26, 2008 08:13 AM PDTThank you so much Nazy for this note and all your hard work on the site. You are a true friend and dedicated volunteer who has done such wonderful and selfless work to improve the quality of this site. Beenahayat mamnoonam.
I have been wanting to write a note about the benefit dinner myself. But something has been holding me back. In the past, I would appeal directly to readers for donations. But this time it is a formal fund raiser with lots of "dang o fang" :o)
Friends have asked me about the event and I tell them I wouldn't (and haven't) paid $150 for any cause, so khod daaneed! Some promoter I am!
Nevertheless, things are moving very well and I am truly humbled by the number of lovely, brilliant individuals who are offering their time and talent to make this a very special evening. (Kiosk and Hamed Nikpay -- two of the biggest musical talents of this generation -- are among the great artists who have volunteered to perform and dedicate their art? Are you fricken kidding me?!)
Just thinking about all this love blows my mind... I hope I deserve and appreciate it.
I can't wait to see all of you...
Love

Nadias who am I going to complain to about a lost money order?!
by Anonymouse on Wed Mar 26, 2008 08:07 AM PDTLost money order is like lost cash. Gone with the wind. It is not like a check where you can put a stop to it.
Anyway, money order is a good option if iranian.com has a good pay to and mail to address. Nazy mentioned an address in her blog but hope she can explain to some of us how to send a money order or cash or to confirm the address so we can make it payable it to Wayne Willis? why not JJ?!
In farsi we say who leaves cash and asks for credit.
Anonymouse....don't send cash...
by Nadias on Wed Mar 26, 2008 07:51 AM PDTMy sister sent us $50 cash for Christmas inside a Christmas card. We never saw the money or the card. This happened in the U.S. If she had used a money order then she could have complained about it.

"Anonymouse"
by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 06:33 AM PDTI know what you are talking about... but if we live in US, we can get money order form post office without giving our name out. The privilege compare to cash is: we can put the name of the receiver on the money order so even if the envelope is lost no one else could cash it...
I Would Like To Wish "JJ" Much Luck
by Shaer on Wed Mar 26, 2008 06:12 AM PDTLiving In Florida, Makes It Impossible To Attend ..
He Is doing A Wonderful Thing ..
Perhaps My Biggest Mistake Was Leaving "Berkeley" ..

Donating money..
by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed Mar 26, 2008 06:09 AM PDTI am giving a lot of credits to the owner of Iranian.com for providing this collaborative community for us Iranian. I believe it is our obligation to support the site in any way possible and donating money is one of the routes. In return I hope Mr. Jahanshah Javid, will hold this community as much as possible a neutral platform for lovers of Iran regardless of their religions and ethnic backgrounds...
Now I would like to donate maybe $200 and send it as money order and stay Anonymous. I would like to know if Iranian.com has a P.O. Box for donation…
Can we send cash?
by Anonymouse on Wed Mar 26, 2008 05:53 AM PDTLike put eskenas in an envelope and mail it to an address?
I know some will say it is not recommended and not safe, but it is my money and if I donate I want to donate it this way. They don't open your mail like they do in Iran.

by n.zanincanadai on Wed Mar 26, 2008 04:47 AM PDTI wish I could come. But I can't. I have to stay anonymous :) But I will be there in spirit! JJJ knows I love him. I shall donate, even though I never have. Everytime the fundraiser event came on line, I banned the site for an entire week. What a nuisance. But now, aberoo rizi mishe. I will support you JJJ. Anything I can do to volunteer on line?
It would have been nice to be there
