Today, as it is customary in my family I went to the catholic church to celebrate the easter! I am non practicing moslem (like most of you), but my kids are christian because of their mom. I have no intention of becoming a christian, since I still believe islam, if practiced accordingly and not mixed with politics, is better than christianinty. However, I don't need to belong to any religion, since every religion has a lot of good in it and I can pick and choose the goods in all. Zartoshti sounds good as well.
I go to church on special occasions to support my family. This year there was a different priest than the previous years. What he said was that: "it is not as jesus physically rose from death and went to heaven - it was that he was transformed from one form to another. This day is about transforming us as the community, neighborhoods, country, or family. Throw away your bad memories from the past and start a new like an unborn child! This is the spirit of Easter!"
Well, this is why I thought to share this blog with you. This was nothing new to me, but it was new since it differs from what most christians believe. What i found intersting was the fact that this is exactly what NOROOZ is all about, and it is not coincident that it happens at the beginning of spring. Is there any relationship here? I would need to do more research, but I would not be surpriesed if I find out that it has dervived from our Norooz.
What is important is the message whether it is in easter, or norooz. Forget about the past and forgive the people for the wrongs that they have done; start a new everyday and enjoy the life as there is no tomorrow!

Happy Easter
by capt_ayhab on Mon Apr 05, 2010 01:54 PM PDTHappy Easter to you, your family and every person in the world. Jesus was a great man and his contributions to humanity are countless.
Besides, I love the way Christian CELEBRATE his passing, unlike our political Shi'a who is but about mourning and sadness, rather than jubilant cerebration of afterlife better this physical life.

My dear Crush on Alex, good way of putting it! Different flavors
by obama on Mon Apr 05, 2010 05:03 PM PDTof Ice cream. Never thought of it that way before. You don't have to like only one flavor! You can fundamentally like certain type, but mix it with different flavors. It broadens our understanding of other people.
I look at the religions more as a garden with variety flowers for every taste. Why should we like only one type of flower? Couldn't we love more than a few or combination? Are we going to be called infidel if we do? In islam, you can even have 4 wives, but they don't allow you to have more than one religion! That's selfish!
What is important to me is the person's character, and I don't care how and through what, if any, religion one achieves it. The problem of belonging to one religion is that one becomes more narrow minded and we would empower people in charge to become authocrats, ending up with IRI.
I still think islam is a great religion despite its shortcomings. Hafez, sadi, rumi, khayiam is more than what we need (I know they were all moslems). If we only could practice GOFATREH NIK, PENDAREH NIK, KERDAREH NIK, this would be a much better place. But, it's hard! How much more difficult if we try to follow major religions.
You talk about religion like it's ice cream
