Thank you all for your comments.

COP jon : It's been a long time since I listened to ELO;  I will look for some old ones. I like Jeff Lynn's work with the travelling wilburys. I totally agree with you about AP. Back in 1995 I saw them in concert only about 2000 people had showed, I knew then that great music had been finally 'slaughtered' by music industry and mediocrity at large.

MG jon: I agree with you, Jethro Tull in the mid 80's sounded like Dire strait; but they would disagree.

Faryam jon: Like you I spent days and weeks listening and reading the album cover( remeber having an story there?). Look up the madison square garden performance of this song, it's fantastic.

Here couple more that I really like.

Now that you're taking me on a memory tour of my beloved music, how about ELO and Jeff Lynn? One of the premier groups of their time. I bought one of the later albums a few years back, but could not get into it. Pity.

And of course, my all-time favorite: The Alan Parsons Project. No need to explain anything when it comes to AP, just listen to one song, that's all one needs.
Cheers.

Me older brother used to listen to Jethro back in Iran, it brought back some memories. Not sure why Crest Of A Knave, reminded me of dire strait? Would the latter be within your intended repertoire? They got some nice riffs, and that " Romeo and Julliet" song, vov, vov, juss vov.

Thick As a Brick Album

by faryarm on

I remember sitting in the back of my 3rd Form classroom, with a copy of  Thick As a Brick in hand, with its unique multi page Newspaper design trying to read and make sense of the text...to no avail :)

Ian Anderson to this day is a class act..

thanks for the blog..

Jethro Tull

I failed to do justice in this blog about one of the legendry bands in history of rock music.

Jethro Tull formed in 1967 with a slant towards blues rock till they released their much celebrated album Aqualung 1971. Aqualung put them in company of  other bands of the era who where doing concept albums. The album is centered around a homeless man wandering around looking at pretty girls with 'bad intent'. Throughout this album, Ian Anderson's songs are very critical of Religion and Society. ( I posted the song My God, which unleashes attack on the church and turning of Christ's message into rituals).

Jethro Tull has used element of Jazz, folk, and classical music in its long creative life.

Thick As a brick, is their contribution to progressive rock, The whole album is just one song running over 43 minutes comprising of different parts and some recurring themes.

Crest of a Knave won a Grammy for metal album of the year in 1978 much to disgust of Metallica

Crest of a Knave has one song that, I think, embodies all the styles of Jthro Tull over the years; here is a clip:
