River Dries up, Bridge gets Damaged

Real democracy is local, not national. At the national level, the side with better and timelier propaganda and higher power wins. This is true everywhere in the world. Democracy should be exercised locally. This is what is done in most successful democracies but not in Iran.

In one of Iran’s largest cities, Esfahan, the main river “Zaayande Rud” has been dry all summer this year due to pathetic planning. Thousands of farmers, fisheried, and other small businesses have folded because of this. There are signs that a famous bridge over the river has been damaged by a mistake in a subway tunnel digging operation.

Yet, the people in the city have kept silent for the most part. They don’t assemble in public. They don’t make their objections heard by local authorities. This is why poor management persists.

It is ironic that people are ready to form large demonstrations to favor “sage zard” instead of “shoqaal” for presidency. But they remain silent about vital issues that affect their daily lives.

This is where we need to practice democracy at the local level. We have to demand better management of vital local issues regardless of who is holding the post of presidency.

Cost-of-Progress

Don't be a rahgozar, stay and chat...

A regime whose only focus is to push its agenda, to further their power through the region by funding groups and factions outside Iran instead of planning and be progressive inside Iran cannot be expected to do better.

This is an antinationalist regime that does not give a rat's ass about Iran - but Islam as a whole. They would sacrifice Iran and her people in a heartbeat if they thought it would further their sick cause.

And people in Isfahan do not object because it is one of the major religious centers in the country. Islamic bullshit rules..........

If you think there's democracy in Iran, your brain has not only been washed, it's been emptied!

You got a point

The real democracy is functional and works best in smaller communities where people know one another and they actualy care about their surroundings. However when a system is messed up from the core and foundation, it doesn't leave anything or any one to care about.  People still look up to what they consive as thier suppiriors or leaders, so if you have some caring people on the top it does make  a difference.sadly we don't have that...

Also water is a very big issue in Iran. In 1970's report came out that showed places like Iran will have problem with availability of fresh water in the future. I guess thirty years of lack of planning in this vital area is begining to show it's affects now...

Can you let us know how much democracy you have practiced so far in Iran, at the local level, on the ground, and maybe near Zayandeh Rood?

Thanks,
