I do not believe that slogans which say[Marg] bar in  ya on is meant literally.

I believe it is meant as DOWN with China or Russia as opposed to DEATH to China, etc etc.

I have been asking myself the same question each time I try to write something funny and positive and happy, but I end up writing another dark and sad and depressing thing! At some point I thought it was Hossein's fault, because even if the guy has been dead for 1400 years, we still mourn for him every year (we march in the streets in thousands and hit ourselves with chains and cut our kids and show off how badly they bleed, etc...) I think we've been raised with idea that "geryeh konin mosalmoona...geryeh savaabe"

Myself, I was almost arrested in Iran because a lady (who looked liked Belphegor, The Phantom of the Louvre) told me I was laughing too much in public. Since then I tried to focus on sad things while in public.

But I think Flying Solo said it the best (Thank you Flying Solo!)! So I hope to see the day when the two Iranians from opposing ideas inside one room wouldn't end up with "fohsh o fohsh kaari" and wouldn't kill each other...

 به گمان من نهضت سبز کمتر از انقلاب سی‌ سال پیش " رویکرد مرگ گرایی" دارد. بیشتر شعار‌های بکار گرفته شده با محتوای مرگ واکنشی بوده‌اند، یعنی واکنش یا پاسخی به الگوی شعارهای قدیمی‌ ( مثل شعار مرگ بر انگلیس و مرگ بر آمریکا، القا شده در نماز جمعه که تبدیل شد به مرگ بر روسیه) یا (میکشم آنکه برادرم کشت). نهضت سبز الگوی انقلاب بدون خشونت را تبلیغ می‌کند. ولی‌ فراموش نکنیم این نهضت کشته‌هایی‌ داده است، و واکنشهای انتقامی و احساسی‌ بعضا اجتناب ناپذیر اند. همونجور که قبلا در بلاگ قبلی‌ گفته ام شعارهایی مثل `نترسید ما همه با هم هستیم` شعار  جدید خوبیست. من هم موافقم که شعار‌های خشونت آمیز کنار گذاشته شود. تجارب سیاسی در ایران، اکثرا با مرگ و خونریزی همراه بوده است و حافظه جمعی‌ ناخود آگاه تصور می‌کند دستاورد سیاسی تاثیرگذار غیر از این ممکن نیست.

من در مورد اینکه در فرهنگ ایرانی پرداخته شدن به مرگ چیز منفی‌ باید تلقی‌ شود تردید دارم. تبلیغ مرگ و خشونت و آدمکشی یک چیز است، و عزاداری و سوگواری و کنار آمدن با مرگ چیز دیگریست. این دو را نباید با هم اشتباه گرفت.

  I don't know why we

I don't know why we are the way we are. I understand the protersters tactics which is a direct retort to chants of "Death to America" etc. to make the point that Iranians are not fooled by the regime. Having said that I very much with yo.

I would be very interested to understand the origins of this trait
(something better reasoned than the usual guesses such as the mongol
invasion as plausible as that may be, as it may have go back further in
time). And to be fair it is not just us. London is full of Arab tourists at the moment and all the conservative women with the modern Islamic gear are dressed in black. The husbands and children wear colour but women wear black head to toe.  And in Iran it is also a sign of piousness, and deep routed in Shia traditions.

I was amazed when I attended my first English funeral to hear the deceased's favourite music tracks played in the church as well his other rememberances not to mourn him but celebrate his life.

We seem to hang on to the worst of our traditions.

Bahar: I have often wondered that. You can add to your list the music, the poetry, the love stories, the unrequited hopes and aspirations, the dread, the failure, the loss, the fatalism.

Somebody mentioned the commemoration of death that goes on and on versus the celebration of marriage.  One connotes hope the other finality. Something suggests to me that Iranians actually derive pleasure from pain, from death, from having their self-prophecy of doom and gloom to actually be realized. Why?

The Iranian people are not the only ones who have suffered at the hands of despots throughout history. They do however appear to be unique in never forgetting the pain; alwyas making sure to remember the gravity of it by picking on the wound, never giving it a chance to heal. As for the cause, it is all forgotten. So history repeats itself. And we consider ourself intelligent!

30 years ago the intelligent who should know better than to believe in a Mollah teamed up and shouted "Marg bar Shah".  Everybody cheered. Everybody agreed whoever would come into power is better than the Shah. Well, they got Khomeini - the bloodsucking devil himself and his lot who pillaged and destroyed; raped and killed. Now it is all about death to IRI.  There is no leader out there but as far as the Iranian is concerned anything is better than the IRI. Are you guys sure?  Do you want to see babies hanging from the branches of the trees that line Vali Asr Avenue? Slowly but surely they are removing the Republic from the Islamic. Tragic.

Until you can place two Iranians of opposing ideas inside of a room and be sure they won't kill each other in the time it takes you to go and get a cup of tea for each, you will have "Marg bar this and Marg bar that" as slogans to FREEDOM.

Somebody should study the inherent sado-masochism of this nation. My way or the highway is our motto.  So DEATH is our slogan.

کجاست گوش شنوا؟

مریم خانوم، بهار یاسین به گوش خر میخوند. زندگی‌ آری مرگ نه. فرق نمیکنه طرف مقابل کیه حتی جمهوری اسلامی.

مرگ کسب و کار من است

با تشکر از  بهار عزیز که این نکته را مطرح کردند.

بنده در خصوص مرگ پرستی و ضد زندگی بودن اخلاق و روحیات ایرانی ها پژوهشی را انجام داده ام که در اینجا فرصتی برای بیان همه آن نیست.نکته قابل توجه آن است که این روحیه در همه مظاهر فرهنگی ما رخنه کرده است. به عنوان مثال همه می دانند که برگزاری مراسم ختم در ایران چقدر مفصل و پر هزینه است. شب سوم ، هفتم ، چهلم ، سالگرد  و مناسبت های دیگری که به یاد عزیز از دست رفته دور هم نشسته و گریه و زاری می کنیم. این در حالی است که عروسی ها را مختصر برگزار کرده و طی آن با همه کسانی که خرده حساب داریم، دعوا میکنیم.

اغلب آهنگ های ما پر از کلمات تلخ جدایی - تلفن می کنم چرا جواب نمیدی؟- تو را با غریبه می بینم - چرا رفتی - شب هجران و ................

این فرهنگ در همه جغرافیای ایران جار ی است. ولی در برخی از مناطق کردنشین ایران - بنده چندین سال در کردستان ایران زندگی و کار کرده ام-  مردم عمیقاً زندگی را دوست دارند.به عنوان مثال همه جشن های مذهبی نظیر قربان و فطر را دو روز جشن می گیرند. مراسم ختم آنها هم بسیار مختصر است. در مقابل جشن های عروسی را بسیار مفصل برگزار می کنند. 

به امید روحیه ای شاد برای همه ایرانیان
