June 3, 08 at 2 pm- more than 250 students of U OF T and their supporters from Iranian community gathered in front of old city hall to send a strong message to the U OF T president , the police and prosecutor, that we do not let you guys to shut down freedom of expression by charging those students who practised their civil rights to make the just demands from U of T authorities .

while the auhtorities are giving us democracy lecture to us as immigrands , they are violataing the rights of studets for public education which is a principal of UN human right charter and alsoignoring the needs of our younger generation.

so many police officers and under cover police were attending the court session which adjourned to July 3, 08 .

It was very good to see officials from our community at the peaceful demonstration and supporting.

espeical thanks to Mike from Roach law firm who are defending some of students for free. Roach and his colleagues always are supporting the Canadian civil rights .

Mr. Zerehi editor of Shahrvand , Dr.Hasan pour, University of York , Dr. Mosla Nezhad, Dr. Azadian, Mostafata Moshtaghian from Dalas, Asad Mozanebi, were among studetns supportersar are some of the community officials who attended the court

I am wondering those who want to run for I.C.C. who claiming to work fot the community were absent . Can we trust you guys to fight for the community at large, I do not think so.

Interested but...

you left out the main story:

1) Who are the students?

2) How many were there?

3) When were they arrested?

4) What were they charged with by police?

5) Have they been tried, convicted, acquitted?

6) What did they do ?

7) How did university involve itself?

8) Who called the police on them?

I could go on and on.  Right now I have only your very vague rendering of what happened, as in they had their rights violated in an undemocratic manner and there followed a peaceful protest afterwards.  For those of us who do not live in Toronto, we are left inthe dark.  Links to news stories would be very helpful.

Thanks,

From a U of T grad

Students of what?

by John on

You are a student at a major Canadian university where the language of instruction and communication is English, yet you are incapable of writing a basic diatribe, such as the one above, without making several dozen spelling and grammatical errors.

Perhaps you should spend less time demonstrating against perceived injustices and more time honing your language skills.  You might get much further in life if you take the chips off of your shoulders and realize that you are living in a democratic paradise where those who apply themselves and work hard will have a happy and prosperous life.  Please leave your political neuroses and persecution complexes where they belong: not in Canada.
