UK Border Agency: Summary of Azeribaijani Turks in Iran
by Savalan

The USSD Report 2008 stated that:“Ethnic Azeris comprised approximately one-quarter of the country's population, were well integrated into government and society, and included the supreme leader among their numbers. However, Azeris complained of ethnic and linguistic discrimination by the government, including banning the Azeri language in schools, harassing Azeri activists or organizers, and changing Azeri geographic names. Azeri groups also claimed there were a number of Azeri political prisoners jailed for advocating cultural and language rights for Iranian Azeris. The government charged several of them with ‘revolting against the Islamic state’.”

In the AI Report 2009 it was noted that: “Activists continued to call for the Azerbaijani Turkic language to be used in schools and government services in the areas where Azerbaijani Iranians mainly live. Dozens of activists were arrested in February [2008] in connection with demonstrations on International Mother Language Day.”

A Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) article, dated 26 July 2008,reported that Vedud Asadi, well-known for promoting the cultural and language rights of Iran's Azeri minority, was arrested without charge two weeks after his wedding. The report added: “The ethnic-Azeri minority makes up 25-33 percent of Iran's population. While the Iranian Constitution provides language and cultural rights for the country's minorities, the regime has banned the teaching of the Azeri language in schools, and harassed and jailed activists like Asadi.” On 24 August 2008 it was reported that Vedud Asadi had been released on bail after being illegally detained for 34days in Rasht, an Azerbaijani city by the Khazar Sea.

Turks in Iran

by Savalan on

Turkish is not limited to one province of Iran, as some maintain; rather, it is spread throughout every province and district... The Turks and Persians in Iran are not like two separate heaps, but like a chessboard during a game in which each player has penetrated the otherÂ’s ranks and the black pieces have mingled with the white ones: Among the villages in which the inhabitants speak Persian, one sees villages in which the people speak Turkish, and many Persian cities, such as Tehran or Shiraz or Qazvin or Hamadan, are surrounded on all sides by Turkish villages or tribes; indeed, the people of the latter two cities understand both languages and speak both of them.

Now let's show them the loyal 'traitor'!

Self-governance within a federative union of peoples in Iran. We all deserve it, and we'll get it in a timely and well-planned fashion. The golden historic opportunity which followed the end of the cold war should have been utilized and managed more wisely in order to bring about the desired ethnic arrangement to all Iranians who live in Iran.

If I were of any minority group, I would have started negotiation and exchanging ideas with other minorities. I'm sure my Azeri brothers and sisters hve enough financial resources to initiate the move.

Unity among yourselves and others under an organization, such as a confederation can be in my opinion, the best starting point.

Never increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything.

Map of linguistic composition of Iran

by Jeesh Daram on

Savalan khan,

It is interesting that you complain about government of Iran neglecting the Azari Iranians, yet you remain quiet to admit that the leader of the Islamic Republic who is almost worhsiped in Tabriz is an Azari himself! So, if indeed Azaris are neglected, it is not because of few Persian speakers in Tehran who might be discriminating against them, perhaps the real reason is that their own son is destroying not only Azaris livelihood but also that of rest of Iran. Have you thought about that?

But I want to agree with you that Azaris should be and are free to speak their language or any language they want. But Azaris themselves love to speak Farsi and if you dream of having Azari taught at schools in that part of Iran, then it can be done someday, may be by a true Iranian leader who would better understand the necessity. As we speak, your antagonist is an Azari himself, so please ask your British friends to remove him and replace him with another dictactor more compassionate to your plight :)

I got you a nice Iranian Linguistic Map, because I noticed you like to talk about languages. But this map was made in 1964 By Atlas Narodov Mira in Moscow and of course Soviets wanted to call Azari language Azeri to enforce the separatists sentiments. Please don't wish to become like Azerbaijan, I have been there done that seen that, corrupt, dangerous, polluted, a pump station for the west and very expensive place. Be proud and try to advocate for return of Azarbaijan to Iran and unificaiton of our land.

I also got you a map of Turkic languages and its origin, you will enjoy reading and studying it.

//s155239215.onlinehome.us/turkic/40_Language...

If you visit Azarbaijan someday you will see that everyone speaks Farsi fluently, nice friendly people and one of the best palces I visited in Iran. They understand that a nation of so many ethinicities most likely needs one chore language to communicate and like you said,  they need to be free if they want to also teach their language in schools along with the chore language. Good luck and stay away from the British

SAVALAN YOU ARE A REAL TRAITER AND ALIYEV SECRET AGENT!

I don’t know where you got your totally false information and knowledge from?

You sure don’t know any thing about Persia and Persian Empires history and world history as well. I know for sure Persia/Iran has been always the land of diversity with many ethnic groups, many religions and linguistic, cultural diversity in ancient Persia and regardless of politics of present brutal and dictator regime of Iran. We can see it today in many other western countries such as America. We can’t say all Persians who born and raised in America are not Americans or all Germans born and lived in America are not Americans …wake up savalan ..stop abusing the IRANIAN.COM site and the whole internet.

Probably you learned your lessons from your masters and foreign intelligent services who are paying you to spread false and fabricated information regarding Azerbaijan, Persia and Iran. I’d suggest you read some ancient history books and documents or find them throu the internet online before you open your mouth. Remember talk through your mouth not your bu…. Azerbaijan has been a part of Persia terratory for thousands of years and will reunite with homeland soon before you know it. There are about 30 millions of Azeri “TURKS” live in Iran in different provinces at the present time. There are also 3 Azerbaijan provinces in Iran and the 4th one was unfairly separated from Persia buy Russian Tsar via 2 treaties according to the following historical document:

The territory of Soviet Azerbaijan was acquired by Russia from Persia through the Treaty of Gulistan in 1813 and the Treaty of Turkamanchai in 1828.

All Iranian are not Persian and Iran is not Persia

by Savalan on

Iran is a multi-ethnic-linguistic-religious country.

Persian is one of the languages (The official one though) spoken among a plurality of the population. Lori, Guilaki, Baloutchi etc.. are dialects of Persian and Kurdish is a close cousin of the Persian language, all of them being the native thongue of a large minority of the population. Turks is another largely spoken language in Iran with its own dialects (Azeri, Qashqai, northern Khorassani, Turkmen, etc..). Other languages like Arabic and Tati are also spoken in Iran.

Ethnically, the people living in todays Iran are a "melting pot". Somehow similar in diversity to the French population at the end of the 17th century, just after the French Revolution but before the big national integration.

WE ARE ALL PERSIANS/IRANIANS AND WILL BECOME MORE UNITED AGAIN

by zuruz on

Persia has been the cradle of civilization for thousands of years. We Persians/Iranians should be proud of our great heritage and history and must not forget historically talking in our great land many governments came to power and left, but our sacred land of Persia/Iran remained with the unique society and diversity of our  culture, religion, language and ethnicity. We have problems with our current regime and sooner or later we will find the right solutions as our ancestors did during our past thousands of years of history. Persia/Iran will be reunited once again and just like East and West Germany or North and South Vietnam. Persia/Iran land fell apart by foreign colonialist powers such as Britain, Russian Tsars and other powers due to lack of wisdom and political knowledge and love for our great land and citizens due to self interests/ambitious of some previous corrupt regimes. Now the world is changing rapidly by having a decent and popular government in our land that will help reunite our separated prts of our families around our borders and lost lands in past few decades back to mother land Persia/ Iran. We should not ever become fool by foreign powers, voices, agents, news, publishers, and organizations because they are looking for their own interests. Historically they never cared about Persians/Iranians interest before and they will never in the future. We posses the richest land heritage and culture in the whole universe and that is why foreign powers and many enemies are so jealous of our natural resourses and wealth. They are willing with any price to create division among our population and tribes further more they want to divide our great land and wealth. We are all brave people, politically educated brothers and sisters should not fall in the opertunists traps as they are investing billions of dollars to reach their goal by using politics of hate as weapons and spreading religions hates such as Shia, Sunni, Christian, Baha’i, Zordoshti, Armani, and other religions as well and they are spreading ethnicity hates such as Turks, Azeri’s, Kurds, Baloch, Lurs, Arabs, Jews, Fars and other ethnic groups against each other. Hope one day soon we break all these walls and borders built by our enemies around us and become united Persia/Iran again and join our relatives and friends and countrymen once again as we did for thousands of years and live with prosperity and harmony and democracy which delivered to us and the world 2500 years ago by our king of kings the Cyrus of Great and we leave it intact for our new generations.  LONG LIVE UNITED PERSIA/IRAN. PERSIA/ IRAN WILL REMAIN FOR ALL PERSIANS/IRANIANS  WITH ALL THE UNIQUE DIVERSITY

Savlan, you are asking for trouble aren't you?

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

Mixing Britain and Azari national rights in one sentence. Now read the comments and see what I mean!

I would most appreciate if an Azari friend with great writing skills like yourself, would write  blog about the great contribution of Azari people to every single progressive social movements in Iran. Do you know I, as  gilani, with many Azari friends, tried to learn Azari, just to be able to read the wonderful words of Samad Behrangi? I am sure that you are very well aware that Samad was very much for the national rights of Azari people (use of their own language at schools, etc). But Samad and his like minded did not fall into trap of "chauvinistic" attitude which is being cultivated and encouraged by the islamist regime in every corner of our beloved land today. That is why Samad's work is now being translated into English and other languages. You see, as a proud Azari, samad stood shoulder to shoulder with every single Iranian kid unable to  eat, study, receive healthcare, because of the corruption and greed of a king or mullah.

I will not even mention sattar Khan!

Allow me to elaborate

by Jeesh Daram on

You must have not visited the Azarbaijan region of Iran ( and it is Azar and not  Azer). The Iranians that are lucky enough to live in Azarbaijan are enjoying the best standard of living among all Iranians, best food, fruits, roads, education, sanitation and infrastuctures as well as having and enjoying so much empathy at the highest level of the Iranian government.

So, as for the British Home Office, MI-5, the AI, Separatists, Radio Free Europe and all the others who dream of grabbing an inch of Iranian soil, please convery my urgent message to them and tell them Mr. JD said:  "take this report and shove it up your ass. It won't be long that we will kick every British citizen out of our mother land and rebuild our country." Never use the word Azeri again, it is Azar.

Go and visit Azarbaijan and then post such material.  And finally it is not Khazar Sea you moron, it is Caspian Sea, who signs your paycheck?
