Massive protests in Iran after the presidential election led to the GREEN movement. Dozens of people were killed in the streets.
The death of four young protesters under torture, while in custody, was confirmed by the regime.
The regime arrested hundreds of people. Many were charged with “Moharebeh”, meaning “war against God”.
Arash Rahmanipour , 20 years old, and MohammadReza Alizamani were executed on January 28. No lawyers were present during their trial. The families learned of their sons’ executions on TV!
Five more men were sentenced to death on January 29. No lawyers were present in court.
“Nine more people are to be executed shortly,” Iranian Judiciary Chief’s Assistant stated on Feb 1.
Another group of 14 men and 2 women are being tried. More people in prisons are awaiting trials.
You can save their lives by raising your voice!
Please contact Iranian officials and ask them to STOP EXECUTIONS immediately.
Sample Letter:
Dear Iranian Authority:
I am writing to ask you to please stop political executions of street protesters in Iran. The recent execution of two young men, Arash Rahmanipour and Mohammadreza Alizamani, without due process and a lawyer present in the court came as a shock to me.
While I support the punishment for people who commit crimes, I strongly believe that every person has the right to legal counsel and defense, as well as a fair trial. Please provide access to a lawyer and fair trial to every single protester arrested in relation to the recent unrests.
The pleas made by some religious leaders for more executions were disheartening and have caused grave concerns about the fairness and independence of the Iranian judicial system. I hope the Islamic Republic of Iran stops the executions and proves that its judiciary system is indeed just and independent and not manipulated by the ongoing political debates and tensions.
I strongly urge the Iranian judiciary to stop the executions. Specifically, I am appealing for a stay of the execution of the 9 individuals who, according to the Chief Judiciary assistant, are to be executed soon.
Regards,

I object to this letter
by divaneh on Wed Feb 03, 2010 04:51 PM PSTDear Shorts, I agree with DK,VPK and Sean and think that demonstrations in front of the embassies is much more effective.
I also object to this sentence "While I support the punishment for people who commit crimes" which in the context of this letter may be interpreted as my support for death penalty. I am against death penalty and wish to see it removed from our penal code.
Thanks but the only way to stop executions is rising up
by seannewyork on Wed Feb 03, 2010 01:09 PM PSTIf everyone comes out with us and is not scared sitting at home then we will rise up and overtake this regime and no more executions.
More people in the streets the more likely we will win and free our prisoners.
Thank You!
by lissnup on Wed Feb 03, 2010 09:14 AM PSTIt is so helpful to have an example letter and the contact details. I have shared your post on Twitter and Facebook.
I agree with DK
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Wed Feb 03, 2010 06:33 AM PSTThey won't listen. The only thing they understand is foreceful response.
The French approach is what IRR thugs understand.
I re-post my other post here:
We should get a legal organization and bring criminal charges against IRR thugs. These guys are responsive to pressure. They also know that their days are numbered. Getting international arrest warrants against the IRR thugs is a good way to pressure them. They are already plannig their exile and should know that they need to behave.
We should also go after their assets outside of Iran. The assets of these thugs all of them including Rafsanjani should be taken using class action suites. The assets should be put aside to compensate their victims as well as the families of their victims.
A combination of criminal and civil suits in the West can put a lot of pressure on IRR. They will back down.
Good initiative But I doubt they will listen
by Darius Kadivar on Wed Feb 03, 2010 06:24 AM PSTBut worth the Try and also one should add:
PLEASE PROTEST IN FRONT OF ALL THESE IRI EMBASSIES IN YOUR RESPECTIVE COUNTRIES AND DEMAND THE GOVERNMENTS OF OUR COUNTRIES OF RESIDENCE TO PROTEST ALSO AGAINST THESE GROTESQUE EXECUTIONS !
Peace,
DK
