Ali P., good summary of bazargan's composition. RG's conclusion of that mix is apropo.
Weak and confused, seem to sum him up. That he was a source of trust for many says much about Iranians, JM, and melli/mazhabis. That he was so thoroughly used and manipulated proves his weakness & confusion. Only the same awaits any remaining melli/mazhabi

But unfortunatley him and his like killed 2 generation of Iranians out of NOTHING.

Make fun of Bazargan all you want, at the end of the day
by Mash Ghasem on Fri Jan 20, 2012 02:47 PM PSTNehzat azadi, Meli-Mazhabi current still has the support of a large layer of professional, bureaucrat middle class in Iran. This is a social milieu, social force to contend with, and hopefully win over.
Bazargan by all accounts was the most conservative of all politicians. He famously said:"We were praying for rain and we got a flood" The satarical weekly Ahangar has some nice skeches of him.
"You mix all this"
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Fri Jan 20, 2012 02:39 PM PSTAnd you get a very confused man, a common trait amongst all "islamist intellectuals"
BTW. I love that Einstain/Imam jafar Saadegh combo :)
"Personal business must yield to collective interest."
As far as he was concerned...
by Ali P. on Fri Jan 20, 2012 02:33 PM PSTand sincerely believed, he was:
a patriot,
a religious man,
an honest politician;
a believer:
in democracy,
in shiite Islam,
in modern science and technology,
non-moslems being najes,
human rights,
and sharia law;
admirer of:
Newton,
Einstein,
Imam Jafar Sadegh,
Mossadegh,
Yasser Arafat
You mix all this, and in the best possible version, you get a man like Mehdi Bazargan.
Hate to say it
by MRX1 on Fri Jan 20, 2012 01:42 PM PSTHe was a super weak politician and to some degree clueless. In a sane society he will be working as a file clerk in some office. His beteryal of Dr. Bakhtiar and the constitution is some thing that no one can ever forget. You can call him Iranian benedict Arnold a traitor.
این بازرگان
afshinazadFri Jan 20, 2012 12:06 PM PST
Mohallel....
by omeedvar on Fri Jan 20, 2012 12:05 PM PSTBazargan was an educated good person, but he was not a strong wise leader. His role in 1979 Iranian revolution, was a mohallel. He took Iranian nation who trusted him, from shah and gave her to Khomeini.
He did not cooperate with his mellioun friend, Bakhtiar, and did not arrange a few weeks nationwide debate among Iranian people to decide their next regime. He accepted an Islamic republic with no other choice, in a quick referendom.
Although he was against US Embassy hostage taking and other dramatic actions, but he did nothing, and when khomeini removed him from his position, he said: this is like my second marriage! Except Abbas Amir Entezam who went to prison for many years, the rest of his colleagues stayed passive, a few cooperated with the regime, and some started their own money making business.

He became a pawn in the hands of Khomeini in 1357 like many of the other "Gullible Roshanfekr who trusted that "Saloos" SOB.
