The edge of the precipice

I have stood at the edge of the precipice,

looked down and

measured the length of my fall.

I have kicked the pebbles with my toes,

watched them disappear into the sea,

never doubting

where I wanted to be.

I have sat with beggars

and ate with kings

wondering with what reason

Fortune rings.

I have circled the globe,

swam its rivers,

and let the waters wash

my sins.

I have pondered the question,

over long sips of tea,

of who is you and who is me?

Let me now take this road,

both familiar and unknown.

But pray do not ask me

to look into the future and see.
