Last week I started a course in accounting at a private evening school. I think this is going to help me in calculating my own monthly sales taxes instead of having the bookkeeper doing it. I will also be able to write my own cash book. But I made a fool of myself on the first night of class. The teacher asked the class if anyone knew what “double entry” was. Being who I am, I raised my hand and while blushing, I told him what I thought it was. Everybody laughed at me and I felt pretty bad about the whole thing. How could I have known this? It sounded exactly as what I said. You live and learn. I have not dared to tell Maryam about this yet but I know she is not going to like it at all. For your information double entry means that for every debit you enter in the books you must also make a credit entry. Daa!
