Berenj disaster …. help

My usual brand of rice ’tilda’ has doubled in price and since we eat so much of it, I thought I would try a different brand and bought this ‘badshah’ brand for a good deal less.

The first time I used it I soaked the rice as usual for a day. I didnt cook well and there was no yummy smell when cooking. The grains didnt grow and it didnt taste so good either. So I thought ok next time I will soak it for longer and and see what happens.

Next time just happened to be a day when we had guests for chello kebab.I soaked the rice for 24 hours.  The meat was well marinated and I had prepared all the usual accompanying dishes. The sun was shinning for a change ( UK weather) and all was going well, except the rice still did not smell right. It still did not grow and I was at a loss to know what more I could do. So I had to serve this rice to my guests and although it was better than before, it was still not perect … I am well known for my ‘perfect’ rice. The potatoe  tah dig was good but the rice had not changed colour much.

I have come to the conclusion that the rice grains are to hard to absorb. Another reason for thinking this is that the butter coated the outside of the grains but did not taste of it.

Now I am left with 10 kg of this ‘badshah’ rice to use! Anyone have any ideas how I can improve it ?????
