we can only do our personal best

it seems that some of us no matter how old we get and how successful we become we never grow out of trying to fulfill our parents dreams and expectations. the other day david and me had gone for a quick drink. as we sat talking at a small table in the corner he suddenly started to cry like a little boy. i looked around to see if the other people were looking at us.  i did not want them think that i had beaten the guy or we were lovers arguing because i am totally hetro.  thank god no one was looking.  david is carrying this weight over his shoulders that he did not get a university degree as his parents had wished for and spent so much money to send him to this country. he feels so guilty and he thinks he has let them down big time. Maryam has tried so much to make him undrstand that true happiness is how one feels about oneself and all the things one has achieved and not what other people think you should have accomplished. she says as humans we all go forward and realize things that are attainable by us. some can easily get a phd, some have to work like dogs to get one and some can’t even finish a bs or ba. it takes all sorts of us  to make this world as wonderful and interesting and colorful as it is. i just wish david would look at the big picture and see all the great things he has already achieved instead of only looking at the things he was not good at and so did not attain.  his world would look so much prettier if he saw it through his own eyes instead of through his parents eyes.
