Had this been any other line of showbusiness, such behaviour would surely be unacceptable. The equivalent, perhaps would be U2 or Madonna turning up at Wembley, and then leaving after spending five minutes in car park.Yet such is Mr Ahmadinejad’s popularity among his working-class followers – whom he has courted assiduously with cheap loans and food handouts – that he knows he can count on their votes anyway.
