NEDA-Peace for Iran groupAnnouncement #3  Saturday, June 26, 2009

Thanks for your enthusiastic participation in thee Human chain event on Yonge Street in solidarity with Iran   On Saturday, June 26, 2009, thousands of Iranian-Canadians from children to senior citizens together with hundreds of others (including a Taiwanese senior citizen couple, Italian teacher, a kind lady from Quebec, …) showing their” V “ victory sign with their fingers and carrying a flag, sign or picture sent their message more effective than ever in support of social and civil movement for freedom and democracy in Iran and putting an end on violence and brutality by the regime against Iranian people.  We were thousands on Saturday, all lined up on a chain 14 kilometers long. We showed that we can tolerate people from all beliefs and we can respect each other; the sign that we have got to the political maturity and the right perception of democracy.

The “Human Chain Event Organizing Committee” as a part of the Iranian-Canadian community has to thank every single person who showed up for this event. We are also grateful for the participation of cultural, social and political icons, all supporters and the “Solidarity with Iran” group, who helped in organizing this event. We also thank people for their political and social maturity that raised the credit of the Iranian community here in Canada.

The Human Chain event in Toronto has a strong and clear message for people in Iran. It shows that Iranian-Canadians despite the differences in political views and beliefs are staying side by side with children, brothers and sisters in Iran and that our hearts beat for Iran and Iranians. Perhaps the government of Coup d’état can suppress the peaceful voice of Iranian people for controlling their future and destiny in Iran using force, arrests and media censorship, but we will be their voice in Canada and international community. For sure government of Coup d’état can not silence our voice that is bearing our political maturity.

We should thank the support of Canadian politicians and parties who supported Iranian people and their rightful demands for freedom and democracy. However we expect more support and serious presence from all politicians in this kind of social events that include full spectrum of Iranian-Canadian community. Hereby we thanks Dr. Reza Moridi (MPP, Richmond Hill), and Godwin Chan (Councillor, Richmond Hill) for their participation and support in this event.

Also we and the community sincerely thanks York Region Police, especially “Hate Crime Unit” and also officer  “Steve” and his partner for their great support, co-operation and  their presence to protect people and keep the order along the human chain.

We also appreciate all officers at Unit 32 of Toronto police, especially officer Momeni (Iranian-Canadian veteran police officer) who professionally and patiently served in all the events and protest held recently in support of democratic movement of Iranian people in GTA.  We thank all the media (both English and Farsi) that were present and covered the event. We appreciate the help we received from Mr. Mohsen Eslami and Saeid Fotovat in taking pictures of the memorable day of Human Chain event.

We also thank all the volunteers and supporters of Human Chain Event, especially those who came up with the uniting flag idea; Iranian flag with the name of Iran, that ended the recent irrelevant tension and dispute over the design of a flag outside Iran. The neutral design that proposed a third option that is not supporting the regime or any party or organization. Democracy is the freedom of choice and believing in variety of voices and tolerance of opposing ideas. At the end we would like to thanks everyone who helped organizing the event by printing and advertising on paper or on the internet and made this memorable Human Chain event possible.

Hope one day Iranian people gain the right for free and democratic election, the day that is not too far.
