Do you know I thought about this for a while? I first thought maybe by demonstration and shouting and flag waving maybe that helps. I also thought may be organizing and mobilizing a movement maybe I am also contributing towards the cause.
In addition, I thought maybe I should start twitter and start encouraging the demonstrators and provide moral support.
Please let me tell you all the above is good and it show solidarity, passion as well as your love for your country and your people. I will also encourage writing a letters to your representatives, human rights organization as well as call the senators in your area and let them know about the human rights violations in Iran as well the illegitimacy of the current Iranian regime.
But what really I thought as a striking step a movement forwards towards democracy and freedom start from within ourselves and at home.
First we need to start respecting one another. We need to start respecting ethnic minorities, religious minorities and women and children in our society. We need to fight for the equality. We need to stop telling those stupid meaningless minority and racist joke about our people and stop the stereotypes.
We need to start to value one another work and respect one another opinions and motivate as well as recognize the work done within our community by our community members.
We need to start the democracy at home. By allowing the children and the women speak freely and have a say in daily lie. We need to teach our kids democracy is like respect you earn it and its done true practice.
When was the last time you told someone to stop telling Azeri or Rashti jokes? What if an American makes those kinds of jokes about us?
When was the last time you stood in front of someone who made derogatory remark about Jewish or Bahai Iranians? Did you tell them stop?
When was the last time you told your wife, your mom, your sister that they are the queens of the house and they run the show?
When was the last time you asked your child for his or her opinion?
When was the last time you shook an Iranians hand and said by the way I am proud you are my friend and we are both Iranians?
When was the last time you offered your service for free to an Iranian family who is struggling to survive in today’s economy?
I had never seen a post here on Iranian.com to offer services to Iranian people who are struggling.
Patriotism is not just waving flags or walking on the street and shouting it comes with true deeds and actions.
Do you know who my true heroes in this life are? I tell you right now:
- Iranian women
- Iranian Jewish and Bahais and all other religious minorities
- Iranian Azeri, Kurd, Baluchi and Arab and other ethnicity
- Iranian demonstrators
Do you know this people stood by us, waved the Iranian flag and kept it quite eventhoug we discriminated against them, insulted them, harassed them deposit all that they still say they are proud Iranian.
My friends I am proud of you, your dedication and your contribution to my country makes me a proud Iranian.
