MONIKA JALILI’S NEW ALBUM, ELAN, TOUCHES US WITH LOVE AND HOPE

IRAN: MONIKA JALILI’S NEW ALBUM, ÉLAN, TOUCHES US WITH LOVE AND HOPE

New York, NY July 1, 2009 — After 30 years, when the 1979 Iranian revolution put an effective stop to the artistic lives of a great number of poets, composers, and singers, Iran is again poised for change.

Since a serendipitous introduction in 2003, American/Dutch vocalist, Monika Jalili has worked tirelessly to revive the touching works of these Iranian artists and her new release is hitting the market at a time of great movement and change.  Élan, Jalili’s long-awaited second album, was released on July 21, 2009.  This 10-track album with rich, stirring Iranian songs of love and hope, is illuminated by Monika’s crystalline yet warm soprano voice, carried by uplifting and passionate melodies, and performed by masterful musicians.

Through the melodies one can hear the influence the West was having on Iran at that time, and through the texts, one can feel the humanity of the poets. This collection of songs was banned in Iran during the revolution, and most still are today. As someone who has not grown up with the Iranian culture, Monika Jalili has successfully bridged the gap between Iran and the West through her heartfelt interpretations of these songs that have touched the souls of many. >>>
