Sitting around the kitchen table, my father told me that his uncle told him that in discussions his uncle had engaged in with the late Ayatollah Dr. Seyed Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti, one of the founding pillars and intellectuals of the Islamic Republic, prior to his tragic assassination, Ayatollah Beheshti clearly expressed that he did not agree with the concept of “Velayat Faqih” as envisioned by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Imagine what might have transpired if men of the stature of Beheshti had not been so callously murdered.
