The Value of Life

This afternoon, as I was going about my business around the house, the local News was on TV. The announcer provided the number for our county’s free cab service for people to use during New Year’s Eve when they had too much to drink.

All of a sudden a profound sadness came over me. I thought about a society in which the human life is so cherished and valued that the government provides free taxi service to ensure its citizens stay safe and avoid potential crashes and accidents due to drunk driving.

Then I thought about my motherland where the so called government engages in systematic extermination of its youth so that it could stay in power a little bit longer.

Why such a difference?

Do we not pride ourselves in our ancient history and culture? What happened to the values that were instilled in us by so many great figures in our history?

Do we blame it on the violent past and history and/or those who invavded, raped, looted and forever changed our very identity and fabric of being some 1400 years ago?
