Siavash: Put your camera away, Sepideh, and just once see nature with your own eyes. You miss so much. Look there on the lake, seven ghaaz just like in the story.
Sepideh: [Puts away her digital camera.] Beautiful birds. They’re not kalaagh, though?
Siavash: who said they were kalaagh. I just said they were ghaaz, why do you always enjoy contradicting me? Just because I don’t like going to your brother’s house?
Sepideh: I was just saying the story is called haft kalaagh and these birds are…”
Siavash: Who said they were kalaagh? Did I ever say they were kalaagh? I clearly said they were ghaaz didn’t I?
Sepideh: [Sighs.] Yes azizam, you said they were ghaaz. Now keep your eyes on the road or we’ll have an accident.
Siavash: Before you start arguing, first listen then think about what I said.
Sepideh: Yes azizam, you said, “Look, Sepideh, seven ghaaz just like in the story.” Weren’t they gorgeous birds, especially the males? You should have slowed down. So cute that they were all paired.
Siavash: [chuckles patronizingly.] You can’t pair up seven ghaaz, there will always be one left over, usually the youngest male.
Sepideh: One was in the rushes, and two were diving when you looked. There were ten of them.
Siavash: I saw those too, and altogether there were Seven! Learn to count joonam.
[Sepideh picks up her digital camera and begins playing back the pictures.]
Siavash: [Nervously, cranes in Sepideh’s direction pretending to be looking for something in the glove box.] The other three weren’t actually ghaaz; they were something else.
Sepideh: [still searching through the pictures.] Yes azizam, they must have been kalaagh e daryaaee.
Siavash: And even if they were ghaaz they must have landed after I looked.
Sepideh: Yes Azizam, these trees are full of ghaaz.
Siavash: [Sardonically] ghaaz don’t live in trees, Sepideh joon. The extra three came from the sky. You didn’t see them come down because you were too busy messing with your stupid camera. As I said, you should try seeing nature with your own eyes. You miss too much. Put the camera away.
Sepideh: Yes Azizam, as soon as I figure out how to photoshop these ordak pictures to make them look like ghaaz for you.
