In December 2000, reformist members of Iranian Parliament resigned to protest Guardian Council (GC) filtering of all candidates who would challenge the theocratic rule & system. The GC prevents people’s vote from being even registered by disqualifying the any candidates who do not believe in God, Islamic Republic, Governance of Clergy (Velayat-e Faghih). Clergy maintain monopoly over all aspects of laws, economy, military, elections, even how people dress, what they eat, books, newspapers publishing, mass communication media (TV, Radio, Internet), communications systems, even text messaging is filtered. (After China Iran has the most sophisticated Internet filtering system).
