Similarities shared by extremists on both sides.
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak without censorship and/or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to indicate not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used.
The right to freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
The ICCPR recognizes the right to freedom of speech as “the right to hold opinions without interference. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression”.
With this back ground in mind and the fact that this unalienable right is limited or even completely taken away in some countries, most notably where tyrannical governments such as Islamic Regime in Iran, China and even during the Monarchy rule prior to 1979 Akhund Mutiny in Iran.
But more astonishing and disturbing fact is that this right and freedom of thoughts, expressions and speech are often frowned upon and silenced by certain so called democratic groups residing in countries where right to free speech, is diligently protected and exercised.
I recall for instance, during reign of late Mohamad Reza Pahlavi, any criticism of the Shah was a capital crime. Same way that is under current regime of Islamic Tyranny. One can understand these type of suppression being imposed by suppressive regimes, be it Pahlavi regime or Khomeini .
What is totally absurd and disturbing is that same methods of suppression of freedom of expression is adopted by the supporters of both group outside the borders of Iran. If one dares to criticize Islamic regime, its supporters will use any tactic in silencing the idea. In the other extreme are the supporters of Reza Pahlavi, alleged keeper of Kiani heritage, who does not fail to cease any opportunity to go behind a microphone in defense of democracy, freedom of expression and human rights.
However if God forbid, a voice trying to criticize his qualification, or lack thereof, as self proclaimed leader of Iranian opposition, his supporters, who ALEGEDLY stand for the principles that their so called leader preaches, commence their vicious personal attacks and slanders by every mean possible. Their tactics are reminiscent of the tactics that Mohammad Reza Shah used in the style of ShaAban Bimokh.
Is this group what we are wishing and supporting for future of Iran?
Do they or even can they practice what they preach?
Or is it just some hallow talking point in the parts of their unqualified and opportunistic leader, namely Reza Pahlavi?
