Deep Sky

Once a month when the moon is in its new phase so it is darkest at night a group of us go out of town to image the night sky. Our favorite spots are the Anza-Borrego desert and the Palomar Mountains in Southern California. We image different types of objects including planets, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and comets. Astrophotography as a hobby has advanced greatly in recent years since amateurs now have access to better telescopes and specialized astronomical cameras. These extremely sensitive cameras are b&w but are used in conjunction with a set of filters to produce color pictures. This is a collection of my images from the last couple of years.
