I went to visit Sarah Shourd’s mother, Nora, in Oakland a few weeks ago. Sarah Shourd is one of the three American hikers in prison in Iran [Update: Sarah has been freed]. The three young Americans were arrested on July 31, 2009 on the Iranian border with Iraq for illegal border crossing. They are being held inside Tehran’s Evin Prison without a chance to see their lawyer, without proper contact with their families, and in violation of Iranian laws.
