Screening of “Not an illusion” in Berkeley

On Saturday, October 9, 2010, at 6:00 p.m., there will be a special screening of Torang Abedian’s film, “Not an illusion” at UC Berkeley’s Valley Life Sciences Building. My good friends at Berkeley Lecture Series are sponsoring this special screening. The film’s director, talented Torang Abedian will also be accompanying her film, and will be available to answer questions later.

The film which took Abedian almost six years to make, follows the fascinating and heartbreaking life of Sara, a beautiful young woman who was a gymnastics championship hopeful as a child, but was hurt and almost paralyzed in a horrible accident. The young athlete’s second calling has delivered her to the world of music in the banned land of alternative rock music in Islamic Republic of Iran. “Not An Illusion” is the story of an underground musician who wishes nothing more than to leave the underground and to step on a stage, where her beautiful voice can be heard with its full potential by the world. It is a heartbreaking and beautiful story, full of spirit, hope, and tales of unending physical, social, and artistic challenges.

Take a look at an excerpt of Torang Abedian’s film. If you live in this area, do try and make it to the screening in Berkeley on Saturday. Let us help this independent film and filmmaker to help Sara be heard by the world.
