The first Amendment of the US Constitution prevents the government from promoting the establishment of any religion. While this fact – or its interpretation – along with the one that actually promotes the separation of church and state may be disputed by the religious folks (the “believers”), it remains a fact that societies on earth are now more than ever divided on the count of religion vs. secularism and things don’t look very rosy that either side will back off.
The new Alabama Governor, Robert Bentley, just moments into his new administration felt he needed to set the record straight by letting people know that he is just another southern zealot bent on the forceful prescription that a dose of religious mumbo-jumbo a day will keep the…the….sanity away! One would have to wonder if there is any difference between this type of a “leader” who claims to be Christian and another who beats his chest for the glory of say, Judaism or Islam. What is different then is the people who elect these folks, or in the case of 3rd world, the people who have to accept these folks because they are the ones in power and have the guns. Being part of a greater entity that upholds the values and the doctrine that the founding fathers of this country bestowed on the nation, the people who actually elected a nut like this governor would need not worry (as if they are worried) as the rest of the nation will not allow such zealots to dominate their country with their nonsense and backward views – at least not for the time being.
As for those who live in less fortunate political climates, well, if one revolution doesn’t work, how long should one wait before one has had it up to ears, and then some?
Here’s what the good governor said:
He said: ‘Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I’m telling you, you’re not my brother and you’re not my sister, and I want to be your brother.‘If the Holy Spirit lives in you that makes you my brothers and sisters. ‘Anyone who has not accepted Jesus, I want to be your brothers and sisters, too.’
