Karzai blasts killings, defends U.S.

KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday condemned the actions of a group of U.S. soldiers who have been charged with murdering three unarmed Afghans, saying they killed for entertainment after taking drugs.

But he also said the killings were not the norm, saying most Americans were “very good people.”

It was Karzai’s first public mention of the actions of five soldiers from the Fifth Stryker Brigade charged with murder and conspiracy in the deaths of the three, including a 15-year-old. One of the soldiers was sentenced to a 24-year term last week after pleading guilty.
