It has been just hours since President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden had been killed by U.S. Forces in Pakistan, but already crowds were gathering in euphoric celebration around the world.
Crowds gathered outside the White House, at Ground Zero and in Times Square as news spread via social networking sites of the subject of the President’s announcement.
As Mr Obama confirmed that the al Qaeda leader was dead, the 200-strong gathering at Pennsylvania Avenue quickly swelled from hundreds to thousands, stretching into Lafayette Park.
