Iranian wildlife officials have announced that the remains of a strange-looking animal discovered in the northwestern Iranian province of Ardebil about a week ago belong to a canine.
“Given the preliminary studies and an expert report prepared in the province as well as the apparent skeletal features and dental arrangement of the animal, it became evident that the carcass belonged to a canine,” Hossein Mohammadi, Head of the Wildlife and Biodiversity Office of the Iranian Department of the Environment, was quoted by IRNA as saying.
Because of the weird appearance of the carcass, some had initially claimed that it belonged to a pre-historic creature, possibly a bird.
“The carcass could belong to a wolf, fox or jackal,” the Iranian official went on to say.
